hi guys...i have recently decided to try out online gaming (never had time to do that before) :P......i am gonna go for a 256kbps DSL connection....regarding this, i have a bunch of questions, that i wud really appreciate if someone answered...

1) i have heard that a minimum of 512kbps is needed for online gaming..will 256kbps hold ?

2) the DSL modem connects to my computer using a USB connection...how do i transfer this to the PS2 ?? maybe by then using a LAN between the PC and PS2 ?

3) My ps2 is a v5/6 PAL 30004R PS2 with a Messiah chip....do i need a different chip to go online ?

4) there is a clone being sold in my local retailer...this clone can be switched off, but then, only the originals will boot...is there any way to started a DVDr while the chip is off, without using swap magic or any additional hardware ?

5) Are there any special conditions required from the DSL connection, for ps2 online gaming ?

6) I have a UK PAL PS2 (30004R), but a US Network Adapter (with a US Network Adapter v3.0 Disc)....wud there be a conflict ?

7) Is there any problem if i am located in Asia (Pakistan) ???

8) I am aware that my PS2 will get banned if $ony detects a chip in my ps2...but will this happen even if i use the internet for other stuff e.g. updating cheats in AR MAX ?

The slower your connection the more problems you will have with game lag. 256 may work but if you have the choice 512 would be better.

2) the DSL modem connects to my computer using a USB connection...how do i transfer this to the PS2 ?? maybe by then using a LAN between the PC and PS2 ?
You would get a Cat5 Crossover Cable or wireless gaming adapter. the official Sony Playstation site has directions for how to set up for online gaming.

3) My ps2 is a v5/6 PAL 30004R PS2 with a Messiah chip....do i need a different chip to go online ?
No, you should be fine with that as long as you don't plan to play through official game sites. Some of those can detect mod chips and will consider them cheat devices and ban you. If you are using the original disc then you can just disable the chip.

4) there is a clone being sold in my local retailer...this clone can be switched off, but then, only the originals will boot...is there any way to started a DVDR while the chip is off, without using swap magic or any additional hardware ?
No, you would need to get swap magic and a fliptop to load back ups without the chip on.

5) Are there any special conditions required from the DSL connection, for ps2 online gaming ?
No sure i have cable, but i do not think so.

6) I have a UK PAL PS2 (30004R), but a US Network Adapter (with a US Network Adapter v3.0 Disc)....wud there be a conflict ?
Not sure on that one either, but i would geuss no. As the difference between PAL & NTSC is the screen mode on the TV and not the network connection

7) Is there any problem if i am located in Asia (Pakistan) ???
Any problem with what? I am sure people there play online too.

8) I am aware that my PS2 will get banned if $ony detects a chip in my ps2...but will this happen even if i use the internet for other stuff e.g. updating cheats in AR MAX ?
No i would think you would be fine. Most game sites out there will not detect the chip. But a few like Socom3 will. If you want to avoid this you can get Xlink Kai. It is a program used on the PC for online gaming with all systems (PS2,Xbox,Gamecube) It is free. I use it for playing Xbox online. You will not have any problem with the chip either as they do not detect those sort of things. You can join a gaming clan that plays online and they will start up rooms and play each other in various games. Or you can just start a game and wait for others to join you.
here is the site for Xlink Kai http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/

one other very important factor is this. You will not be able to play ANY of your current back ups online unless you have previously patched the DNSA from the original game into your back up. If you did not they will all have to be patched and reburned to be able to use the online function

1) do u know any games that fully work with 256kbps ?? so i can test them out first ?

i think the chip i am using is the original Messiah chip (since there was a sticker on the PS2 box with 'Messiah' written on it)...and it doesnt have the sleep function....now, some people claim that if u play a backup, provided its correctly patched, ure chip will NOT be detected, and u will log in...that, chip detection only works when playing an original......is this true ??

also, i am in pakistan.....does this mean i can only play asian versions of the ps2 games ?? cuz all the ones i have are USA or european versions....

I'm a Swap Magic user, and I play all my backups online after patching the DNAS. Like many systems, last I heard, the PS2 could detect modchips.
Also, don't plan on playing any of the SOCOM games, there are hidden sectors within the original that your reader/writer cannot recognise and
so even if you use Swap Magic, you still can't play it online.

EDIT : Also, in regards to your line speed, I had problems at 512, the speed was just laggy a lot of the time, so I upgraded to 2mb and now they play fine.

yeah, i have had no lag at all with my cable modem going through a Linksys speedbooster router. I would go with the faster speed if you have the choice.
and like i said above if you are worried about getting banned then get Xlink Kai and use it. They have quite a few games that you can play on it.

Quoted from steimy

There is an acceptation to this. If you have a Crystal Chip installed with the latest hacked firmware flashed to it, the chip will patch your back-ups for online games on the fly with no need for any patching by the user.
