I am trying to make a re-authored backup disc of my new copy of Lady and the Tramp, but it won't work. After I initiate the backup, the encoding process begins, but it doesn't seem to work at all, and then there is a cyclic redundancy error.

I have over 130 GB of free space and use DVD Shrink and then Roxio to burn the disk. I have done this MANY times (yesterday with A Bug's Life) and I never have any problems. I always use the ISOImage file and burn with DVD Decrypter' option. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You might want to search "BambiII", probably same sort of encryption stuff on it. Try "ANYDVD"

I don't have either, and my "Lady and the Tramp" is the OOP 1 disc version, and unless I find it used, I won't be replacing it.

tarr,
Welcome to the forum. You can do as mackdl suggested and use AnyDVD( they have a free 21 day trial offer) or you can use DVDFAB Decrypter and rip the Movie to HD and then use Shrink to process. The CRC error code you got could be the encryption used or it could be a dirty, scratched or bad press DVD. Since this is a new movie I think it is the encrypterion and Shrink by itself can not decrypt it. Also if they played w/ the DVD structure then you will neen VobBlanker to correct it. Below is a guide one of the members here . It use Recode but you can replace it w/ Shrink

Thanks! DVD Fab and Re-authoring worked like a charm. I can't believe I haven't needed to do that before today. Thanks for all the suggestions. I went ahead and downloaded VOB Blanker just in case I need it next time.

Hey,

Tarr- Remember that DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter are no longer being updated. because of that it can't break new Protections that are coming out every week. Not to down play the to best backup softwares ever made!
use other updated backup sofware if you want like CloneDVD,DVD-ClonerIII
and ApolloDVD.

Just a Idea!

Are those backup software programs free? or are there any more free decrypters? or is that what DVDFab is?

Also, why is DVD Shrink getting phased out?

Tarr,
Those program's mentioned above cost $$. The only free rippers are DVDFAB Decrypter, and DVDDecrypter( has not been updated in a while w/ no plans to do so) and DVD43 is a which is a driver related ripper.. Shrink was phased out as the author went to work for Nero

Does anyone know if either of these apps (Shrink or Decrypter) will be picked up or continued by someone else, or other 'FREE' alternatives. DVD FAB works great with VOB blanker, but only if you know exactly which files to blank out. Is there a site or page that details which files in VOB need to be removed for more recent DVD releases. Alkohol has always helped, and perhaps has insight into this?

I believe you can still use DVD Decrypter in ISO Read Mode and then use shrink using the Open Disk Image. :)

The way I see it, there's a very fine line between the paid and free, usually seperated by the 'fee'. As far as software goes, Clone and AnyDVD are about the only two I'd ever consider paying for. And, they were supported fully, until recently, by many boards out there in the interland.
