Is there any difference in backup quality between x4 to using x8. There is $15.00 differents in price. I don't mind burning at a slower speed. But I do want quality and these R TY's from supermediastore. Thank You

If their both Genuine Taiyo Yuden, then the X4 and X8 will both produce excellent quality back ups.

Assuming yor burner supports both speeds and media.

In fact I stick mostly to X8 Taiyo Yuden over the X16 (on my X16 rated Benq 1640, still to try them on my 1650) as results have been better on the lower speed media.

If you want to save $15 then go w/ the 4x from supermediatore. Both are the real deal TY and you won't have any difference in quality.

If you're talking about the media, then I'll say get the 8X DVD+R Taiyo Yuden (YUDEN000T02), it's much better. Although it shouldn't really matter if it's genuine YUDEN media (i.e. 4X, 8X, 16X), but from my experienced, I prefer the 8X DVD+R better over the 4X. I haven't tried the 16X YUDEN yet, but once it's available at Best Buy or Circuit City, I'll make sure to grab them and test it out.

If you're talking about burning 4X vs 8X, then I'll say it's all up to your firmware and burner's capability. If your burner's got the latest firmware, then it shouldn't matter if you burned with 4X or 8X. However, I would not go beyond 8X though, maybe once or twice just for experiment, but I wouldn't want to keep burning at 16X all the times. My recommendaion of burning speed is to always keep it at anywhere from 4X - 8X only. To back this up, I've done some experiments in the past burning with the latest MCC004 (16X DVD+R Verbatim Advanced Azo) and to be honest, I don't like my burning results at all (even with my scanning quality via Nero CD-DVD Speed test). Yes, it's a successful burned and it plays fine, but I'm starting to see few glitches already.

In the end, the choice is yours.
