Hi
I have tryed searching high and low on the forums and have had no luck.
I want to get some short video clips of a dvd. So i load up my SmartRipper and load the DVD. I pick a single chapter, then i go to the stream processing bit and select [0x80]Audio English AC3(6CH) 48kHz Normal Caption for my audio settings and then click start, and it rips successfully.
Then i open the vob file in DVD2AVI when i preview it in there, there is absoloutly no sound to the file, the video file is perfect, just no sound?? What am i doing wrong? Am i seleting the wrong sound options or somthing?!

Nether the less i still saved it in DVD2AVI and then i converted it to avi using this tutorial http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com/DVD2AVI.htm

And then when i played the result there still was no audio. So i guess im doing somthing wrong when i rip the file from the dvd to cause no audio?
Please help me!
Thanks in advance, guys :)

My guess is that the sound ripped ok, but DVD2AVI screwed it up. Not a great app really unless you are frameserving. It's a little better for that.
Ok Kirsty, let's make this easy for you. After you rip the segment you want, open it with a decent player, like Power DVD or something and see if the sound works. I'm not real familiar with Smart Ripper, but if it allows you to rip a chapter like this it will probably work.
I'm not sure what the end result of this video is going to be, but you want to convert them into AVI? The best way to accomplish this is a free little program called Virtual Dub. They have a modded version called Virtual Dub Mpeg that will open MPG files, and also VOB files. You can also check the sound here, it will play if the track has sound. You can also use this to edit your video to remove unwanted material, and then you'll be able to save the file as a new AVI directly from this program. Works like a charm every time.
If you intend to burn these segments to a new DVD, there is no need to convert them to AVI. You need a program that can edit MPG and VOB files, and one of the best options is TMPGEnc DVD Author. It will allow you to assemble different segments from various DVDs easily and without these issues you are experiencing. It also does much, much more, but if you try it you'll find out about all that.

Hi!
Thanks for replying. I did what you said, i tested the VOB file in my powerdvd player and the sound actully was there!! But it's just when i open the VOB file in DVD2AVI that it takes the sound away for some reason?? I do actully want to convert these to AVI, so i will go and find the Virtual Dub Mpeg programme and test it in there. I take it this programme is available for download on afterdawn?
Anyway i will download this proggie if i can find it, and let you know if this works.
Thanks for your help! :)

Is this the Virtual Dub one that you was reffering too? http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/virt...
Because i just tryed downloading it, and when i went to open it i got a message saying 'Failed to open, the corona.dll component is missing'?

Is there anywhere i can get the virtual dub modification one you mentioned?
Thanks :)

I managed to find a copy of this virtualdubmod on the sourceforge site. I downloaded that ang opened my VOB into it altered a fews settings and added a resize filter. I saved it as an AVI and it worked! Both the sound a picture are fine!
You were right, does work like a charm :)
Thanks again for the help
