Hi,
I have a Dell Notebook that I normally use on a work network. This weekend I was having issues with my home network so I plugged my notebook into it to see if I could resolve the problem. To cut a long story short I changed the computer ID area from a Domain to a Workgroup at whcih point Windows asked me to reboot. When I did this my userid/password wouldn't let me into the computer - completely locked me out. I tried every user/password combo I could think of but nothing works.
So now I am desparate to get back into my machine. Does anyone know a backdoor into Windows XP Pro as I really need to get to my data.
All the best,

Are you talking about the log in user screen?
If so,go into safe mode then go to control panel and click account then remove user password.

Once you remove a computer from a domain, the login and password associated with that domain no longer works to log on locally, those credentials are only valid when logging onto the domain. To log on you would need to know the local administrator password then log on with the administrator account. You will have to get the administrator at your work to add it back to the work domain too, usually you can't just reconnect and add it back to the domain yourself.

Man that was a nightmare!!
Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated but unfortunately they didn't work.
In the end I used a Linux OS and a programme to hack the Windows security system, worked really well.
All the best and thanks again for the feedback, Simon

Simon

Hi Lenny42, I'm a bit irritated by your comment. Software is genuine and came bundled with the notebook. My fault that I locked myself out of my computer and I was very grateful for the help people provided and that I could get my data back. I can only hope that if you are in a similar situation that people are as generous with you as they were with me. I would like to think that most people out there do the right thing and help each other out.

Glad to see you got it worked out, and as far as comments coming from people like Lenny, don't even bother wasting your time responding to it.
