Force ASPI won't Install

Many ravs about Force ASPI (frcasp117.zip). I downloaded it and ran it on my Pentium 4, 2GHz, 2GB RAM XP PC. According to the install program, the installation was successful. I rebooted the PC and ran aspi.chk. Force ASPI had not installed. I've repeated the process with no luck. I understand the advantage of Force ASPI is that it eliminates a need to have an adaptec device on the PC - which I don't. But it won't install. Suggestions, how do I force Force ASPI to install?

if you have multiple profiles on your pc close all profiles except the one that has adminstrative rights shut down antivirus software and any virtual drives you have installed the below instruction are taken from there site
Usage and Instructions
Here is a brief description of what each script does.
instASPI - Installs the latest, 4.60 (1021), Adaptec ASPI layer on Win9x,
WinME, WinNT and Win2K. Any existing ASPI Layers will be
overwritten.
dumpASPI - Creates a backup of your existing ASPI layer, or parts thereof.
Some Win32 operating systems do not have an ASPI layer, in this
situation you will create an empty backup.
restASPI - Restores the ASPI layer backup created with 'dumpASPI'.
WARNING! If your ASPI backp is empty this will completely erase
your currently installed ASPI layer.
killASPI - This will completely remove your currently installed ASPI layer.
killDUMP - The deletes your dumped ASPI layer.
I would recommend that you use ForceASPI in the following way...
Run dumpASPI to backup your current ASPI layer
Run instASPI to install the new ASPI layer
Reboot your PC
Run aspichk to see if everything worked OK
you may need to run killaspi

Thanks for the post Philraz. I shut down PC-illing and Spyware Doc. Only one profile, me, the administrator. I re-ran frcaspi17 and rebooted the PC and ran aspichk. No change. ForceASPI won't load. I have no other ASPI layer on the machine.
Do I need an ASPI to rep a DVD using DVD Copy Plus? Maybe I am asking the wrong question ...

No luck. I have researched the available info and all I found was another subscriber with the same unresolved issue. I tried following the 3 recommended solutions - install latest adaptec, intstall latest Nero, install ForceASPI. All looked like they installed, not one did. No aspi layer on my machine to uninstall.
Should I end this tread and resubmit to an advanced forum?

i have to this date did not install that aspi or any other,as each burning program install it own aspi,
and i am using both xp and windows 2000..
if i was you i would restore back to b-4 ye tried to install that aspi.

Ireland, thanks. That's good to know. Here's what happens when I try to run DVD Copy Plus:
1. When I click SmartRipper, I get a pop up screen that says "no ASPI Adapter available"
2. I click ok, and it shows this display in the Smart Ripper:
no ASPIAdapter available
test file access...
VIDEO_TS.bup-Win_IO readable
VIDEO_TS.IFO-Win_IO readable
VIDEO_TS.VOB->Win_IO readable
VTS_01_0.BUP->Win_IO readable
VTS_01_0.IFO->Win_IO readable
VTS_01_0.VOB->Win_IO locked!

A pop-up screen says "Some files are still locked! Try to unlock with a player" Abort, Retry, Ignore
3. Abort aborts the process, Retry does not change anything, Ignore causes the SmartRipper screen to display (looks like it will work)
4. I select a target location and the SmartRipper "start" and "options" settings appear (still looks like it will work)
5. When I click start, with all chapters on the DVD selected, nothing happens.
6. When I try to select individual chapters and change options, nothing happens.
Do these problems stem from not having an ASPI layer or something else?

DVD Copy Plus:is not to hot of a program..
if i was you i would go this route,if you want to copy dvd movies..like with in 5 min of both installs..
get CloneDVD and any dvd as both can be use for free for 21 days..

Ok, I'll try CloneDVD and report back. Upon running ASPICHK, it shows that there is NO ASPI layer on my PC. I'm not sure what to restore back to ...
I bought DVD Copy Plus when it first came out because it can decrypt encrypted DVDs. More recent DVD rippers might not be able to do this because of changes in copyright laws. I guess CloneDVD can do it.

I loaded CloneDVD. I tried it on a DVD I had just bought and it came back saying "CloneDVD is not for use in copying protected DVDs".

also ye need AnyDVD its the ripper..
AnyDVD works in the background to automatically remove the copy protection of a DVD movie as soon as it's inserted into the drive, allowing you then to backup the movie using a DVD backup tool such as CloneDVD

You need AnyDVD to remove protection which has a 21 day trial. DVD43 which is free works in most cases but never as good as AnyDVD. Try one or the other. Oh yea dvdfab Decrypter also does the trick to get it unprotected and on your harddrive then burn with your own program or DVD Decrypter or imgburn both by the same guy and very good programs.

Thanks for the recommendations. AnyDVD worked fine. CloneDVD then worked fine too. I need a little more advice on 2 remaining things:
(1) In CloneDVE, the audio track that recorded on top of the movie was the annoying narriator version. Instead of hearing the actors, I hear a narriator through the whole movie telling the story. How to I select the correct audio to get the correct sound without the narriator?
(2) CloneDVD created like 5 1GB VOB files. These play on my PC, but I'd rather have a single movie file that I can fit on a DVD or CD. Most copied movies I've seen (.AVI or mpg or mpeg) are less than 800MB. So (a) how do I link the VOB files seamlessly into one "movie" and how do I reduce the size from 5GB to less than 800MB (perhaps a .AVI or mpg format)?
Thanks. I imagine I could do research and find the answers to the last two questions - but if you don't mind helping, I don't mind asking.
