I am a noob when it comes to emulators and homebrew, so forgive the banality of this thread, but I just finished SOCOM and GTA:LCS, and am lookin to emulators for my PSP now, and was wondering after reading various forums, is it still necessary to downgrade to 1.5 to run them? (The Genesis, SNES, NES, and PC Engine[Turbografx16] emulators specifically), or even some of the UMD/ISO loaders, or can they be run on 2.0? Can anyone advise me on this? Greatly Appreciated!

No not anymore thanks to the 2.0+ eloader, you can play the Genesis, SNES, NES, and PC Engine emulators but you need a retail version of GTA in order to actually play them however there are no working UMD/ISO loaders for 2.0+

Sudds you can play GTA on a 2.0 as that is what it requires but thanks to MPH and his new UMD loader it is now possible to play 2.0 games on a 1.5 psp :)

My PSP is at 2.0, which is why I was asking if it is necessary to downgrade in order to run emulators, so if i understand correctly, I can run emu's on 2.0 with this MPH thing, which I hope is easy to use and understand, but in order to run ISO loaders, I have to downgrade to 1.5, which also has a method to run GTA, so either way, im good right? Ill look into all this now, thanks much for your help.

Yep you can run eums on 2.00 but not with the MPH loader that's only if you had a 1.50 psp and wanted to play 2.00 required firmware games. Since your psp is a 2.00 you can use the tiff exploit loader which you can get from here http://www.fanjita.org/ (i said in the above post you need the retail gta but you don't since the while tiff thing:) you will need to use the MPH loader IF you downgrade to 1.50 and want to play GTA.
