Ok I dont know if anyone read my last post, well ok I know one did but after much work and not really knowing what I was doing I think I've broke my sons PS2. :-( The Laser doesnt even move anymore the disc motor doesnt turn and well their is no Disc tray Blue light. Have I really broke it or do I have a hope? Let me think I have a hope or I'll be bald by Monday!

For people here, in afterdawn, to help u, u need to tell us EXACTLY what u/some1 has done to it. State ALL what u have done B4 it stopped working.

Ur statement comes to 2 answers: A blown fuse OR the ribbon from the FRONT switch is lose or missing.

Who would you employ?

Sorry I know I was a bit vague. Originally what I was trying to do was put a bit of life into the laser. It had been skipping and stalling and well taking over 5 minutes to load games....burnt games that is. I had a Modbo 2.1 installed at christmas for him. This is when all the trouble started. I have had it back to the shop where I got it installed and he adjusted the laser a little but this didnt do any good so I thought I would give it a whirl. I first started turning the white cog a few turns but this didnt do any good. Eventually I turned my hand to the Laser Pots. From what I have read I have a V5/6 laser with the Pink and Green stickers next to the pots. I had read that they are usually around 1200 ohms for CD and 1400 Ohms for DVD. I altered mind to around 1000 each to see if I could get some extra boost out of my laser. Infact it didnt work and it stopped reading altogether. After the last time I tried to alter the pots, I put everything together and bam......just the green power light. No Blue Tray light and no power to the laser or the CD tray.
If it is a fuse are we talking about a Motherboard fuse as in a tiny soldered one. I can test it with my multimeter if I know where to look. Hopefully that may just be the problem. Is it possible if this is the case to just quickly jumper it out and test or would this just blow the motherboard?

Thanks,

Chris

Ohh I meant to add....I checked the cable and it looks ok. No crimps or anything. Is there any other way to check that?

It could be the PS1 fuse. Go here and test ALL fuses, ok: http://www.psrtech.co.uk/fuses.htm

Hi,

thanks for all the replies. I've tested all the fuses and it seems PS11 is dead. It just says 12v but I assume that this is the main 12v supply. Which might be why the laser doesnt work anymore. Are these easy to replace. I'm not too bad with a soldering iron and do have a bit of amateur radio stuff behind me. When I look at the board however the fuse doesnt go all the way through to the bottom. Would it be easier to solder 2 small wires either side of the fuse and then buy a new one and solder it to the two wires? Ohh before I forget from the page you sent me mine is the Version 5 and 6 motherboard.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. That fuse is a dangerous 1. Go to any electronic store and replace it with the same rating, ok. If u brige it, ur going to damage the mainboard.

Yes, these fuses r easily replaceable. But be careful and not get urself burn, LOL!
