==========
Summary:
==========

I have already learned from the posts that DMA, drivers, media type, disk space, memory can be an issue.

On PC #1 I burned 3 coasters in a row, but with DVD-RW media it was OK.
On that machine I have DMA problems, I admit. But when I put back my old "Samsung TS-H552 DL" burner, it burned the data without problem!

On PC #1 I have ACE Mega Codec Pack installed. Could be a problem? Is there a way to remove it completely and safely?
(Comment: I have had CD grabbig problem on the same machine earlier. I couldn't use ASPI, only 1x speed through the sound card :-/ So I run a circle with ASPI drivers (tried aspichk.exe) without luck. XP doesn't have built in ASPI? Why? What does it have instead for audio CD ripping?)

On PC #2 ASPI is OK, and is the same hardware config like #3 where everything is fine with the same media.
It's obvious that there are differences in drivers, and driver versions.

I'm a bit confused about the whole thing. And I have 36 hours to return the DVD burner if this is the root of problems.

Thanks for advance

Fix your DMA, here:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038

Try to burn only to 4300MB
Quote:
Disc Manufacturer ID: MBIPG101, Media Type ID: R04, Product revision number: 1
<----Bad media

Use better media, Good media is Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim , Fuji MIJ or maxell MIJ. (Made in japan).

Just set your DMA to active and use QUALTIY media.
Also your firmware needs an update.
That should clear out the problems.

As you can see in the log #3, the same burner on the same media has successfully wrote the data at first try.

How can the media quality be determined just by Manufacturer ID or Media Type ID?
Is there a public database that identifys what is what and/or is there a rating by users' experience?

I have tried Verbatim as well.

No question, DMA is set wrong. I'm going to fix it. But my old burner perfomed well with the same settings. (I have no disk bandwidth problem, and this burner has buffer underrun protection too.)

I have the latest v1.37 firmware.

Thanks for the advices.

Here is your media, and you can read the reviews on it, dependant on which brand you bought. However, none of these are considered to be too good.

I agree with both "jizmak & arniebear". The above error and MID code stated that your burner doesn't like the media you're using. It is definitely the media in this case. I've been using genuine Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim "Advanced Azo" and Hitachi Maxell (made in japan) and I've never experienced/encountered any "KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR" whatsoever.

And yes it's wise to enable DMA back on, plus updating firmware to the latest is a must.

Good luck!!
