Hold it right there. MagicKeys 2 tool 3(the tool that goes near the hinge) is made of steel, which can short your PlayStation 2(I don't think you want that!). Try my cardboard and straw MOD. It may be harder, but at least you won't fry your console. Just buy Swap Magic by itself.

I've installed 4-5 sets of magic keys without incedent but I supose anything is possible I've tried your straw trick but found that after a short period I had to redo it and it is more dificult to get in the right position than the magic keys

What? Okay, you know what? Replace the straw and when the disk spins IMMEDIATELY tape the straw down. That's what I did and it never moved out of place on my Version 14. Unless what you did was make the straw completely flat. No. If you made it 100% flat, then it could move out of place. Keep it a little round.

The slim kit is only for the Version 12, I think, so it won't work on a Version 13/14.

I wouldn't do a fliptop for slim PS2, Slim kit pro is very easy to install and doesn't vold your warrenty it took me about 5 minutes for the installation.

ddp, that's for Version 12 PlayStation 2s. Know why? Look at the picture with the straw in between the hinge. Only 1 metal plate. I did my personal MOD on a Version 14, which has 2 metal plates, and it has nothing to do with that link. The parts for the switch that is over the On/Reset button and the disk break are completely different. For the switch, the part is a piece of cardboard(cereal box type) that looks like Tool 1 of MagicKeys 2. For the disk break, it's a 2.5 cm strip of cardboard that's as wide as the break that is taped right next to the break. For that straw, that's as a result of 1 month worth of experimenting with different materials to get the switch. Cardboard did not do it, not even paper. There was no way for me to trim a toothpick to make it big enough to make it go inside. Besides, some splinters that split may burn. Steel would short the console, so the only thing that was left was the straw, which worked after trying to get it on the switch 5 times. Also, the positioning is different. If you look closely to the left of the metal plates, there is a tiny gap, which is where the straw goes.

So there you go. It has nothing to do with that MOD in the link.
