Your new drive should come with lightscribe software. The newer versions of Nero include it also. You have to buy lightscribe media, which is specially coated. No other kind will work. I just got a new lightscribe burner last week and love it! You can get the Verbatim lightscribe discs online for around $1.33 each at supermediastore.com. Until Taiyo Yuden starts making them the LS Verbs will have to do!

MS Windows XP MCE SP2, Intel P4 3.20 GHz, 2.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce FX5600, Seagate 7200 rpm 200GB HDD, Sony SDMHS93 19" LCD, Field Value
Audio Adapter Creative SB0317 Audigy LS Sound Card, Liteon models,SHM-165H6S, 167to6c, All burns exclusively on genuine Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim media!

the ONLY lightscribe media to trust is verbatim.
TY or Sony does not make Lightscribe.
hp is junk..

when on sale.. at best buy mainly..
its either a 10 pack for $7.99
or a 25 pack for $25
it does average to about the same. those will come in (+) format. depending on your lg burner.. it should be able to booktype those to dvd rom and you will have no issue.

and you want / need to learn about booktyping.. check this link
http://booktypefaq.com/

your cdr media for LS... regular price is $20 for a 30 pack..

hope that helps

rooney,

I just got a LS burner last X-mas (05) and love it.Only negative is it takes 30-35 mins to burn a full picture.

As for SW I personally use Roxio where others use Nero, no real advantage in my mind when it comes to one or another. Chances are your burner will have some type of labeling SW with it.....

I spoke with Verbatim recently as they said this summer they will be coming out with different color discs (blue, red, green). Right now the only color available is a monochromatic Goldish mat type.

Your best bet is definitely Verbatim. If you belong to Sams club you can get a 30 pack for $25...best price I have seen

that is a good price at sams.. i've got about 30-40 discs left from the last best buy sale.. i rarely use those. i do have a 30 pack of the cdrs. but again.. i dont use them very much..

@littlegun,

yes.. i did hear that too.. i didnt remeber it.. but glad you got that in there.. i didnt speak with verbatim on it. but i do have easy access to LaCie ( the maker of my burner ) the rep did state that they are having those coming out. the only issue with any advance with LS. HP i believe was the first one that had it. so everybody else started using it, but they really cant do much until HP "approves it". i dont know.. but if your media sucks.. you shouldn't be allowed that much power..

More on lightscribe - go to lightscribe.com. They have some canned graphics to use. Also, in the Support, download section they have a program called extended label contrast utility. Basically, the normal software that you use for buring has a good, better, best setting for burning. The better the setting, the slower the burn. What this utility does is add an even better quality above "best". They say it is for people who don't care about how long it takes but want the better contrast. I have not tried it yet but plan on doing so tonight. I will post the results.

Follow up to my lightscribe post yesterday - I installed the Extended Label Contrast Utility. It installed fine, very quick. I burned one disk last night. A full label with text and graphics that where in color. The normal time for doing this is around 23-24 minutes. This time, at Best quality, it took around 44 minutes. When finished, I compared the disk to a similair one I had done. The latest burn was definitely darker, had more contrast. I am interested to see what text only burns look like. I would say for a label with photos on it, it is worth the wait for the darker label. Not sure if text only would be worth the extra wait but we'll see. Note that you can re-run the utility to set the burns back to default and if you re-install or upgrade your burn program it gets reset back to default.
Again, what the utility does is change the default settings of burn quality from good, better, best to better, best and better still (darker). The settings still "say" good, better, best.
