I'd would contact the vendor(company) that made your pc and request either a windows install disk or a restore disk. If you bought and installed windows yourself and lost the cd then i'd say your out of luck.

well you could reinstall windows. or you could do a system restore all the way back to the time that the PC was bought. doing a system resotre will mean that your comp will be exactly the way it was when you first bought as far as installed programs are concerned but youll get to keep all of your files

Studio Comp: AMD Athlon XP 3200+ OC ~ 2.35GHz runs at 40 celcius idle and 48 under stress (aerocool GT1000 really works!), Asrock K7VT4A , 1024MB Dual Channel DDR 400, MSI Nvidia FX5200 128MB OC ~ 600MHz mem 350MHz core,80GB SATA + 200GB SATA + 120GB IDE, 7.1 Channel Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum EX sound and midi interface. 19" Sony SDM-HS95 TFT monitor - sweeet
Comp2: AMD Sempron 2400+ OC ~ 2.0GHz (Stable), Asrock K7S41GX, 512MB DDR 333, Onboard Graphics, 40GB Maxtor IDE

set of monitors on the way soon :P
Google is your friend...
WorkComp: LAPTOP, intel celeron D 2.4GHz, 256MB DDR, 20GB hd. NO SCREEN IT WAS SAWN OFF :S (bag of crap)

Those two facts don't quite live well together Sypher! :P

It could be as simple as uninstalling everything you can find in Add/Remove programs...then use a good registry cleaner like CCleaner to rid the system of leftover files, and registry entries.

thanks guys for your help, the pc is pretty old though i had new mother board, ram and hard drive put in it as it totally crashed about a year ago,(lost everything on it) when that was done the shop put xp on it without a disk. I have brought a new pc which came with 2 disks called acer microsoft wondows xp media center edition 2005 RCD aspire e500 dvd 1&2, but also says: this software included on this recovery dvd was per installed on your hard drive at the factory and may only be used on your acer computer system.
Are these disks able to be installed on the old pc? aka: will this work?
Thanks Guys for your help:)

This sounds most likely (im 99% sure) that this is a restore disc NOT a genuine windows install disc. so no this disc can only be used on the system that it came with.

the best thing I know u can do is go to www.download.com and type in abexo free registry cleaner 1.0 and download it....
go to control panel>add or remove programs and remove everything then run the registry cleaner twice (just to be sure) and then do the system restore thing

If I insult you...don't get offended...my insults are "friendly insults"...I know this sounds stupid (ridiculous) but I am fet up of writing, "no offense" in my posts...

My Comp: (will add specs later)
