Problem with some normal games and swap magic disc

I am having problems with some games and sometimes the swap magic. I have an older PS2 model and sometimes when I put in a normal copy of a game like Star Ocean 3 Disc 1 or a Swap Magic DVD Disc it always take me to the menu where you see the memory card and Disc. Is something wrong with my Playstation 2. I tried the Disc 1 of Star Ocean 3 elsewhere and it works. I am thinking it might be the fliptop or something else that is messing up with my PS2.

try cleaning the laser & see if this helps
