I'm new to all this technology. I bought a ps2 for my 7 year old son. Could anyone please explain to me in simple terms what the best and safest way one can play backup copies of ps2 games without having a chip installed. I know this question has probably been asked a dozen times. Please keep in mind that i stay in Cape Town, South Africa and were are no so technically advanced as you guys in the USA.

im also from SA (pretoria)

let me tell u straight man.. there is no way u can copy and play without a chip. i hav sufed countless hours, and there is many many programs that claim that you can do this, but it is rubbish! i even bought dvd wizard pro for about R240 but is doesnt do fokkol!!!
go to google and do a south african search for "defcon 5". i chipped my ps2 with them (r800) en dit werk soos 'n bom!!!and it has a 2 year warrenty

you can play games without a chip, but you still need to modify your PS2.
A set of Swap Magic discs and an aftermarket fliptop will do the trick. A good mod chip installed in your PS2 is the best way to play back ups by far, but the above would work too.
DMS4 and Matrix Infinity are the 2 best chips around right now.

well there is one other way to play backup games but its gonna cost a few bucks.its worth it though.you need a seagate or maxtor harddrive at least 100 up.order hd advance online for $30.there is also a ps2 program which allow you to upload import games and backup into the harddrive.this is probably the safest way to play backup and import games.

what an idiot I am haha why did'nt I think of that I have a 20 gig drive in my ps2 I never use thanks for the reminder!,also nobody buy hd advance you can download a freeware version you dont need it with the dms 4 though
