Hey guys. First off I wanna say the guides on this site and the topics on the forums are awesome. They helped me alot getting used to the programs I use to back up my dvds.

I'm a little pressed for time ATM or I would have looked into this more but heres my question. I try backing my DVDs up using DVD CopyX. Its a quick 2 click copy and its done. It doesnt seem to work on the new DVDs coming out (im guessing they stopped updating it). So for the newer ones I use DVD FabDecrypter and then burn it using DVDShrink.

For the newer DVDs I back up (usng fab and shrink) I find the quality is not the greatest.. It's still good but I find its a bit grainy. I compared two dvds ive made using DVD CopyX and the Fab/Shrink Combo and I find there is almost 0 quality loss on the CopyX ones I make.

Can anyone explain this and give a possible solution. I saw in my DVD Shrink I had the compression setting to automatic (60.7%). But I can change it to No compression which takes up ALOT more space. If this is the solution to the grainy problem should I be investing in Duel Layer DVDs for this?

Thanks for the help!
Jarrod

If you want exact backup then use dual layers. Otherwise, your compression is high, you can do movie only and then you will get lower compression. If you want to do the whole disk you can customize your compression settings by stealing the space from extras or make sure you edit out unecessary audio, subs that you do not need. Also on backup use the advanced analysis and AEC quality settings this will give you a better backup.
