I'm thinking about buying some DL media for a couple of very difficult to backup DVD's. Down here we only get Memorex (not going there), Sony (are they TY?) and Verbatim. So I'm now trying to decide between Verbatim and Sony. Which one should I buy? I've never burnt DL media so I need to know if there are some precautions I should follow. I dont want to end up with a very expensive coaster.

If I always hear voices surrounding me, does it mean Im crazy or that I hear in Dolby 5.1?

go with the Verbatim DVD+R DL, made in singapore, in MY opinion, the BEST DL media on the market today...

as to the Sony, NO, they will NOT be Taiyo Yuden media because TY does NOT make DL media at this time~ :) and it's a smart decision you made with the Memorex, yeah, you SHOULDn'T go there~ :) LOL

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

Again, I agree with my buddy Doc. Yes, as far as I know, "made in singapore" Verbatim DVD+R DL is the best (top dog) right now for DL media. You can't go wrong with them, unless it's an "operator's fault" or firmware and burning speed related issues. I've backed up over 40 plus and so far I've never experienced any "coasters" whatsoever.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

Well I've got a laptop with a NEC ND6650A which burns DL media at 2.4x. with stock firmware. I think the Verbs I'll be buying are 2.4x-5x. Are any of you aware of any problems with this Burner/Media combo?

About the made in Singapore thing...what other manufacturing site could I find and what does it imply?

If I always hear voices surrounding me, does it mean Im crazy or that I hear in Dolby 5.1?

Those sony dl should say made in singapore as well. I just read another thread where someone said they saw singapore on them. They just may be made by misubishi chimical corp, which makes verbatim.

I'd get the verbs first/then sony second/and memosux last. There's not too many manufacturers making dl media. MCC/CMAGS/Ritek/and phillips. Fuji also have some, but I don't know which manufacturer.

I don't know anything about your NEC,but Verbatim is the best DL media in the world!

Don't pay over $2 a piece for them. That's what they run when they are on sale.

Edit:
Yo kivory: Check out this link, looks like meritline.com must be recieving some Playo DL media sometime in the future, LMFAO!
Probably pure crapola for a $1.50 each.

I'm going to the store tomorrow or Saturday to get those Verbs. Unfortunately Saugmon I cannot get that price over here. Since there's not a big demand for them, they run at $3.50-$3.99 (case included). I tried to order from MeritLine, but they don't ship to Puerto Rico via USPS, only UPS and that's a pocket cleaner. Funny thing is they ship via USPS to other US Territories like Virgin Islands, and they are a few miles farther. Well, enough of corporate/foreing policies.

A few more questions...

1-Should I rip to ISO with Decrypter and burn with ImageBurn (I've never used it)?

2-Stick to my usual routine, Decrypter in File Mode and burn with Nero?

Like I said, I'm trying to minimize the coaster risk.

If I always hear voices surrounding me, does it mean Im crazy or that I hear in Dolby 5.1?

Here is an excellent guide for producing 1:1 DL copies using DVD Decrypter

Good Luck to you and happy burning

By the way, I have burned several hundred DL discs using the exact method shown in the above guide

Definetely rip with DVD Decrypter using mode iso read. Then you can ISO write/locate those mds files and burn. Or you could open up imgburn, locate mds files and burn.

It's nearly identical to decrypters burn engine, just imgburn is suppose to be better for dl backups. I don't do a whole lot.I just did Harry Potter 4 the other day using DVD Decrypter only and it turned out perfect.

I don't recommend burning dl media with nero6. Too many issues on the layer break.

I bought the Verbs today. They are Advanced AZO, made in Singapore and rated 2.4x-6x. I also downloaded ImageBurn. It's jusk like Decrypter like Saugmon said. The only doubt I have configuring it is the interface I should select (I/O Tab). I currently have STPI-Microsoft.Is it OK or shhould I change to ASPI or ASAPI? I want to burn these babies soon so I need feed back on this one.

@burningas

because they just AREn'T at this time~ :) hehe, wish i could convince them otherwise, but there are NO immediate plans for Taiyo Yuden to start producing DL media...it's been a speculation at best for the future, but right NOW, it's not gonna happen~ :P
