Hi There,
Simple question. I have read about putting a internal Harddrive in an external case and using that with a slim ps2. My question is can i use a normal external hard drive in the same manor?

Many Thanks
Dave

I tried doing that - then found that only certain drive makes and/or external cases will work with the PS2 connection. Also the connection is ony USB 1.1. I got mine to work once then it quit. I was using USB Extreme as the software to boot with - came up with a list of games on the hard drive and you just picked one. Also, not all games can be played in this manner. The HD you use is just a normal one, but as I said, only certain HD types and enclosures work. Have to format the HD with this software and then load the cames with special software.

Try this for more information:

dskiff: Thanks for you info on the matter. Ive got a freecom 250gb external hard drive and will be looking into attaching it to the ps2. From what ive found out, the freecom is a western digital hard drive, so the compatability should be ok. Will get usb advance and let you know.

Thanks again for info.

sorry but western digital wont fit in the ps2.maxtor and seagate are your best bet if you are gonna be putting a hd in your ps2.i could be wrong but if you put in the western digital it may need some adjustment on the network adapter.

i heard reading from the USB drive is rather slow compared to reading it direct from the DVD. Is it true? Any USB Advance/Extreme users willing to share their experience?

from what i have heard reading from a USB hard drive is about the same as from the DVD. Internal is the way to go if you do not have a slimline. It will be much faster than either the DVD or USB method.
Especially if you have a DMS4 Pro chip.

Western Digital is ok and should work, Maxtor is said to be very good, Hitachi will work and so will Seagate.
Here is an internal hard drive compatibility charge with many, many pages where you can serch for the model you want.
