I want to back up my games, but i also don't want a ps2 that is trash in a few months. When i do get a ps3 i would like to give this system to my sister. Any way i am looking at the slide-card and flip-top but im not sure which one to get. I'm concered about wrecking the system during instaltion (flip-top) and during usage (slide-card) What are your thoughts on this?

It really comes down to whether or not you want to use the slide tool every time or just open the top. It's not that hard to install the top...you just have to watch out for the eject/reset ribbon. And as far as using the slide card, if you don't try to rush it and use brute force, you won't have any problems!

which one do you use? Also for those who have had the slide-card for some time now, have you noticed problems, and were you carfull as Jamaal10 suggests? and for those who have the flip-top does the system make funny noses or have trouble playing discs?

I use the slide card and have done so for about a year now. I haven't noticed anything different, as far as noises, etc.

Or you could just get a cheap modchip and not worry about swapping all the time. Norcalmods.com has a Apple Pro for 25$ which is Chip+Installation auto boots all PS2 and PS1 backups and Multi Disc games.

I used the Slide Tool until my PS2 died (which was to be expected. I had it for about six years and it worked great, but finally the laser just gave out). I only began using it about a year ago, but I had no problems with it at all. Once you get used to how it feels to lock the PS2, you won't have any issues at all. The only time the slide tool gives any problems is if you don't reseat the backup properly after taking out Swap Magic (or whatever bootdisc you use).

Here it is in simple form

Fliptops are very easy while they cost more than Slide cards

Slide Cards are very cheap but take more time then fliptops and harder to use.

If you get a fliptop I would get it from CustomPS2.com they have good fliptops.

If you get a slide card I would get it from iHackPS2.org

Slide Card: http://ihackps2.org/inventory/product.php?productid=16168&cat=249...

Well i just ordered it from there so hopefully it's good. I got the flip-top with the swap magic, figured if i didn't like it the slide card is only 8 bucks more.

The flip top was garbage. On some games it makes tons of noise and won't load unless i open the top, wait for it to make a differen't noise, then close the top and wait for to make the first noise and repeat. After a few times of that it loads. Awful!! I'm not saying all are like this but the flip top i got is. I emailed the store i got it from and they are shipping me a slide tool free of charge. I uninstaled and reinstalled the top 3 times and burned the bad games 4 times with the same results. Then i decided to try the orginal disc. Same thing happened. So it was the flip top.

Hi, I just created an account just so I can reply to this thread. Get a flip top. Get a flip top. Get a flip top. I can't say it enough. You will be so grateful for having one. I find myself using it to put REAL original games into my PS2 even though I could load it through the tray like normal. It's just so much better having a flip top. I bought a Matrix Infinity chip...yeah, well I am pretty good at soldering, but apparently not so good at disassembling a PS2, because I broke the fan plug completely off the motherboard. I ended up soldering to wires that came with the chip to the board to hit the two connections that the plug original hit, then I twistied and soldered the fan wires that I had to strip to the newly soldered wires. I thought I'd broken my PS2. When my PS2 still worked flawlessly (Thank God) I said screw a mod chip, and it is still sitting in my desk drawer. I will use Swap Magic 3.6 from now on. But get a flip top because it's so much easier to swap out that it's almost fun. The only caveat I can give is when you're screwing the fliptop case down, don't do it too tightly or sometimes your tray won't open correctly when you hit the eject button. It's easily fixed by loosening the screws on the bottom. As for the guy who said his PS2 flip top was making noises, the first few times I tried using mine, I thought I'd gotten the same thing as you but I figured out the disks I was putting in weren't in all the way. There's a little ledge that sticks out in the back of the drive. Make sure the disc is UNDER that ledge or else it won't spin correctly and will make that noise you're talking about. After I discovered this problem I was on Cloud 9. Good luck.

OH yeah, and I recommend getting the SM3.6+Fliptop combo from gocybershop.com. They're from Canada, but it's the cheapest place you can get a combo like that from and they gave me awesome customer service. Very fast. I will do business with them.
