Since I have been burning I have used DVD Shrink along with DVD Decrypt and never had any problems. Last week my computer crashed and I had to have it completely reformated and in the process I lost everything. I have managed to find DVD Shrink on this site but wondered if DVD Decrypt is still available anywhere and do I need it anyway with the latest version of DVD Shrink. If Decrypt is no longer available what is the next best decryption software to use. Thanks in advance.

Lauzzie, I had the exact same prob--reformat & clean install.. However, after reinstalling dvd shrink & Decrypt, I can no longer burn dvd. I have been "burning" for over a year with no probs til last week -- the reformat thing. The following is from my last attempt, and any help with this will be appreciated!!!!

Disc Manufacturer ID: CMC MAG,
You'll want to get better media...try Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden, Sony, Fuji, Maxell (made in Japan).

Better media?? TDK worked flawless until the reformat....Which is why I'm back here....Nothing has changed, unless Micro$oft has updates that I have since downloaded - screwing me yet again....

I'll try a different media. I still have a few imations left. Thanks for the help! I'll post an update when I get a change to burn.

Imations and Memorex will most likely be made by CMC magnetics as well, that is why I suggested the brands above.

Thanks for the reply jegman. I have downloaded both DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter but have not had a chance to burn a DVD yet. I think I will get to it asap because I have never had any problems before either and I am hoping that I wont now. I will keep you posted.

@lauzzie

I didn't mean to overlook you, but reading back no one really answered your question. While DVD Decrypter still remains one of the best ripper/burners out there, the fact remains that it is no longer being updated. To cope with new copy protections you will need DVDFab Decrypter, it works the same as DVD Decrypter in File mode and is updated often to keep up with new demands, best of all it is free like DVD Decrypter. As for the burner I would go for Imgburn, it is developed by LUK (the guy who gave us DVD Decrypter), but Imgburn is only a burner like DVDFab is only a ripper...but they do the job together quite nicely. Keep DVD Shrink in your arsenal and use like you always have.

You can get DVDFab Decrypter here: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/software.htm

You can get Imgburn here: http://imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

Hi LOCOENG. Thanks for the reply. I just want to confirm your thoughts. I should use DVDFab Decrypter along with Imgburn. I assume they have to be used in conjuction with each other. Also if I stick with DVD Shrink can I use this along with DVDFab Decrypter. The only reason I ask is I have a fairly good knowledge of DVD Shrink now and dont know if its confusing to swap to another program. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

DVDFab really just takes the place of DVD Decrypter as far as the ripping goes. It is updated to keep up with new encryptions unlike DVD Decrypter. It will create a VIDEO_TS folder just like DVD Decrypter does in file mode, you then input the files into DVD Shrink as usual and then burn with Imgburn, DVD Decrypter or Nero...the choice is yours. I suggested Imgburn because it picks up where DVD Decrypter left off in ISO write mode, because again DVDD is no longer being updated...Imgburn is.

I would personally move away from Nero for the simple fact that it is a complicated program that has so many uses, so many things can go wrong, which I think makes it a little unreliable. I use Nero and have no problems with it, but if you have problems I would just move on...there are plenty of free proggy's out there to backup movies that work just as well.
