hi, i have a version 7 ps2 and about a year ago, i used to get disc read errors but i fixed that by adjusting the laser position and cleaning it. But recently, my backups have been playing painfully slow and i thought that it was my burning or my media but it's not because i checked the backups on my friends ps2. So, i tried cleaning the laser again but they are even more slow now! Have i damaged my laser accidently? I used a ear swab stick that i swabbed in a bit of spirit and then used circular motions to clean the laser. I then dried it with the dry side of the swab. Can someone help me?

make sure your swab didn't leave any little fibers on the laser.
That would slow it down for sure.
But it may need to be adjusted again, or replaced if all else fails

how can i make sure no fibres were left on there? And is it all right if i use a dvd lens cleaning kit because it worked on my friend's ps2.

edit: and btw, i hope this helps but when i opened up my ps2 and loaded the backups that worked really slow, i could see that the disk kept on stopping spinning every few seconds. So it would spin for a little while, then come to a stop and then start to spin again and so on. The cycle repeats itself. Again, i hope this helps.

sorry i am not on here every day.
You can use a lens cleaner that is made for consoles.
I have one that is made for Xbox and i clean my DVD Burner in the PC with it too. Although some people say that they will screw up your laser i have not seen any proof yet.

try it and see if it works, but make sure it is made for a console as the little brushes will be on the inside of the disc rather than on the outside and it will work better. They system i have for Xbox has like 10-12 little brushes on the disc.
