Here's some of their manufacturers, and I believe their 8x speed is made by cmags:

KHypermedia DVD+RW 2.4x (CMC MAG.W01)
KHypermedia DVD-R 1x (CMC00RG200..)
KHypermedia DVD-R 1x (TDKG02000000)
KHypermedia DVD-R 2x (CMC MAG.....)

Not very good!

$14 a spindle of 50,way too much for cmag media. You can get the quality sony/fuji ty/maxell hitachi-ritek/and verbatim for $15 a 50 pack when on sale. Office max has some very good sales on them.I know they carry khypermedia as well. Cmags also makes media for: Memosux/philips/TDK/HP/Teon/and a lot of store brand name media like compusa/office max brands. This is one manufacturer to stay clear of.

I'd avoid them like the plague. Too many issues may occur. Not only trying to get a good burn, but stand alone players can pick apart that lower quality media with issues like pixellation/freezing/skipping/and no disc inserted errors. You can avoid a lot of headaches by staying away from the crap media and step up to the quality stuff.

$5 for a spindle of them,I would be tempted to use them as disposables. Way too much.We can get you quality media under that $15 a 50 pack price line.

I agree with saugmon - avoid them like the plaque!! Use different manufacturers - majority bad. You may have 1 saving grace though according to videohelp.com the +r 8x can be made by MCC though the other 2 listed for +r are CMC & Philips. If you have the -R then your stuck w/ cmc.
Run them though a disc id'er and see who made them. If you need one - here's link:

They're probably made by ricoh - not bad. Used a few Ricoh- no problems- but I'll stick w/ my Taiyo Yuden or Verbs. Just my 2 cents.
Also I would make sure your burners firmware is up to date.

dent18,

Sorry dude but you spent about $13.98 too much for those khypermedia's, glad you got your money back. Those riteks should serve you well as long as you keep the burn speed to 8x or under. Did you identify for sure who actually makes those office depot dvd+r's? I'm a verb man myself.

PS binkie your sig is just so cute ;=) Probably getting sick of my ugly mug in my sig huh. I clean up pretty good though.

dent18. I tried 2 of the 50 packs of Office Depot +16x and they coded as Ricohjpn-r03 and were pretty good. I did have 6 discs in a row with a manufacturers defect in between the layer of dye and bottom acrylic, after that,ok. The 2nd spindle had 0 coasters.

BTW: Their +8x are Ritek-R03,very good media.

I Rank those 16x OD ricohs just behind Ritek. I haven't burned enough to get a good feel for them or see how they scan with the higher burn speed.

Here's my top 5 list of quality plus format media-booktyping purposes:

1) Verbatim MCC-004/MCC-003 8x and 16x.
2) Yuden000-T02 Sony/fuji +8x
3) Maxell-002-00: Hitachi made maxell +8x
4) Ritek-R03: Taiwanese maxell/fuji/and Office depot brand +8x
5) Ricohjpn-R03: Office depot +16x.

All these brands are very good. Very little difference between my #1 verbs and #4 Ritek-R03.
99.9% + success rate on my top 4 list.
I'm at 94% with those ricohs, way below par for my satisfaction-but it was manufacturer defective coasters-not operator error! LOL

I love OD media sales. Look for their buy 1/get 2 free sale. Last sale like that I picked up those ritek and ricohs for 20 cents each. They avg 25 cents each in their buy 1/get 1 free sales of 50 or 100 packs.

how do you check if your firmware is up to date?
what do you do if it isn't?
what can happen if you don't update it?

You can usually check the firmware at the manufacturer's site of your drive. It's usually under the support & download section. You just need you make and model. To find that and the current firmware version you can go to system properties>device manager>right click on your drive then click on properties and go to the details tab. The version is listed to the far right - in this pic the firmware is 1.02

Firmware helps your drive w/ read/write strategies esp. for newer media.
As the newer stuff comes out if your firmware is outdated it may not be able to recognize the media or burn properly.
Editted to add: Here's a site you can also check for firmware updates:
