I'm a novice at this. I have Sonic Record Now version 6.5. When I burn a DVD from my TiVo desktop. I am only able to play it on my computer through Windows Media Player. The DVD will not play on any other computer or any DVD player in the house. My Sonic Record Now will only recongize DVD+R discs. Do I need a software upgrade for Record Now to correct this? I'm very confused.

You're suppose to use Sonic MyDVD software to burn TiVoToGo transfers to DVD, it doesn't sound like that is what you are using?
Best regards,
Rich

Rich...thank you for your response. I tried what you suggested, however it says the TiVo file is not supported by MyDVD. My computer is less than 2 years old. I've got to believe I've got the raw materials to do this but I'm not doing this correctly.

Can you go into Windows Explorer, and tell us what the files look like, particularly the file extensions. Or better yet, take a screen shot of the files, and post it here.
Good luck,
Rich

Gentlemen..I downloaded direct show dump, ran one of my TiVo files through it so it became a mpeg. I then attempted to go through my sonic MyDVD program to burn a DVD and it was still unrecognized. I am running TiVo 2.2 which is the latest version. Any suggestions?

To be clear:
You converted a tivo file to mpeg with Show Dump on your pc,used Sonic to burn the new file and the resulting dvd (which is a dvd+r) is not playable on your standalone player.
Can it be viewed on your PC?
You authored the dvd, you did not simply copy the files to a dvd.
(Sorry, you said you were a novice)

PaulHP,
Did you read the thread I posted above? It appears noone uses Sonic's MyDVD, but instead uses Nero's Vision4. Check out "TivoJunkie43" step-by-step post on what is successful for him in burning a movie to DVD.
Actually, you should join that forum, they are the experts in what you want to do.
Good luck,
Rich

I was not able to burn the DVD on Sonic MyDVD because the new file (mpeg) was not recognized by SonicDVD. I wasn't able to burn a thing

Well, like I said before, don't use Sonic's MyDVD, use NeroVision. Maybe you should read the above thread, that I linked for you?
Good luck,
Rich

Yes it does. So NeroVision sounds like the way to go. I went to their site. What version should I purchase? And would I be purchasing just software or is there hardware that comes with it too?

Nero has free trial version you can download, however, some people have had some problems with version 7, so I would go with version 6.x.x. I am surprised you don't have a version of Nero, which NeroVision comes with it, they are normally given away when one purchases a new system or a new DVD burner. Check your inventory, you might just have it.

Rich

Before going the Nero route, have a look at this:
http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/download/tda16.html
I use this program to author (edit out commercials) from recordings made on my Panasonic dvd recorder.
You simply open the mpeg file that you have on your pc, edit out the content you don't want, save the output in DVD format to your hard drive or continue to burn a disk.
It uses a kind of ' wizard' for the steps and is less complex than Nero and help is available in the 'Guides' section of afterdawn.

Gentlemen...so many choices. The cost looks about the same for both. Again, this is just a software installation, no hardware correct?

Correct, and both have free trials, so you can see which is the better software that performs to your expectations.

You can't go wrong with TMPGEnc DVD Author. Easy to use, and the finished discs will work. One of my favorites. Nero 7, not a favorite.

One other question now that I've got the experts ear. For some reason, while trying to convert TiVo files, "Real Player" has replaced "windows media player" as my default viewer. Any idea idea on how to reverse this?

Yes, open Windows Explorer, and right click on the drive that you play videos, then select properties, then select "autoplay", and lastly select "windows media player" as the default player, and Voila. Also, I do not allow Realplayer to ever run without me telling it to run by, clicking the Start key, then select "run", and then type in msconfig, and select ok, then select the tab named "startup", and look for "realsched", and uncheck the checked markup, and he will never run again, except when he is called to run.
Hope that is clear, and good luck,
Rich

I would have to believe that you are doing something incorrectly. I tried it on 2 computers, one a Home Edition, and mine, that is a XP Pro version, and they both react the same.
Oh, did you right click on the DVD drive that you play movies, and then select properties? Also, you might have to select "DVD Movie" at the top, just below the tabs, and also check the "Actions" botton.
Good luck,
Rich

On your desktop, double click on 'My Computer'
'My Computer' menu opens and lists your drives.
Right click on the dvd drive in question.
Click on 'properties'
