I've read that with a lot of games that support progressive scan, you are suppose to hold triangle and x as it boots up and a message will pop up asking if you want to run the game in progressive. Does this work when using a backup, fliptop and swap magic as well? And if so, when do you hold the triangle and x buttons? Thanks for the help.

yes it works with backups (they are exact copies of the original, besides the security features), not sure how to turn it on though.

Anyone know how to turn on Progressive scan on a backup if it's not an ingame menu option?

you need to press and hold x and /_\ at the same time while the game is starting to load. if nothing happens then the game does not support P.S. thats how ps2 handles P.S(the game needs to be made with PS in mind), no workaround about that.
