Changing the extension wont help, you will need to convert the files,
to dvd format.
You could use Nero vision to do this,
and a host of other programs.

Welcome to the forums!

Cheers!

I DON'T HAVE THE OPTION OF NEROVISION. I HIT THE "EXTRAS" AND ALL I GET IS NERO SMART START OR NERO EXPRESS.

MAYBE IJUST NEED TO START FROM THE BEGINNING.
I DOWNLOADED A MOVIE. EXTENSION AVI.
IT STAYS IN THE LIBRARY.
WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER THAT? I AM NEW(DUH) AT BURNING MOVIES.

The first thing to do is to convert the .avi files to a DVD format, you can do this using a free application called avi2dvd found here along with a guide:

http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/6405.cfm

Once the files have been converted you can then burn to disk. Because it looks like you may have a very limited OEM version of nero, nero won't be able to help, so use DVD decrypter to burn to disk as described in the guide.

Edit: If you don't have DVD decrypter, you can get it here:

Chances are that your DVD player is an older type that only plays DVD-ROM disks, if this is the case then you could try booktyping the disks as DVD-ROMs (booktyping tricks the player into identifing the disks as DVD-ROMs). There are two conditions that need to be met in order to do this, first you burner must support this feature so check with it's manufacturer, second you can only use DVD+R disks to burn too. Here is some info you should read on the subject...

http://www.k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php

If booktyping is not an option for you, then consider buying a newer player that will play all formats.
