Im a newbie at this. I have a v4 ps2. It's at least 3 years old(Could be 4. My cousin gave it to me) I can play backup games fine(I use swap magic) But recently it seems that my laser is having a hard time to read the games(Espcially fight night round 3) So i think i should just get a HDD. My question is can i put copied games onto the HDD? Or do i need the real game? Also the hdd im looking at buying is this

PS2 HDAdvance 3.0 NTSC & Maxtor 250GB HDD-148$

Is that a good price? And is that all i need?

i was you, i would get HDloader instead of hdadvance....i have hdloader and it works like a charm.....i have a fat ps2 and a 120gb hdd, and i love it, the thing is, im almost positive that you can put burnt games on it, cuz i know of ppl that do, but idk how, and i really need to find out....up until a few months ago, i also used swapmagic, and since i have gotten my hdd, I LOVE IT.......if i was you...i would get one.....hands down. and yes, 145 bucks is a really goood price for a 250 gb.....good luck on finding out how(if you find out...private message me please) but there is a way....im just not sure...and if i was you, i would edit this message....and change the title to "putting backups on a hardrive" or something like that, you might get a little bit more replys like that!!

That sounds to expensive to me, I got my 200 GB for 50$ at Fry's and my Network Adapter for 10$ @ EB Games used. Then you can download HD Loader and load it up with Swap Magic for make a Memory Card Exploit.

v7 w/ Crystal Chip 1.1, Boot Manager 1.8, and HD Loader v0.7c w/ 80 GB HD
v7 w/ DMS4 Pro and Toxic OS .41 w/ 200 GB HD

Thanks for the replies. I found out how that you can put backups onto the harddrive with the help of swap magic. I also looked at fry's website and i could only find the maxtor 100GB drive for 49.99. Was the 200gb one you got on sell? I also found this one for only 109.99

Maxtor 300GB L01S300 16MB Buffer Serial ATA (SATA) - Retail Hard Drive Kit.

Does hd loader/advance support 300gigs? And is this Harddrive compatible? If it is i'm going to get this one.

What you'll need to do is get a Hard Drive and Network Adapter (as you know)
Then you need to D/L the following programs
HD Loader 7C ELF http://sksapps.com/index.php?page=hd.html
& Independence Compiler 3.0
http://sksapps.com/index.php?page=exploit.html
(to create a MC Exploit)

if you want to put the games on your PS2 through your PS2 you can but I wouldn't suggest it.. It's SLOW and not so healthy for your laser
you'll want to install the hard drive into your computer and use a program called winhiip
http://sksapps.com/index.php?page=hd.html

If you are a serious gamer and have a little cash you are willing to put out then here is my 2 cents

First get a new laser and DMS4 Pro SE chip installed.
This is about $100 plus shipping at most places like Teammodders.

Then get a good HDD to put in the PS2

The DMS4 Pro SE runs on a program called ToxicOS and it has built in functions for a PS2 with HDD. It has a built in HD loader program that gets updated by the Toxic Team about twice a year, these updates you download for free and burn to a CD to update your chip and it's function. It has better game compatibility that the actual HD Loader program does.
It also has tools that will format the HDD and copy the game strait from the disc to your HDD. It also has a menu to run the games from that you can choose as your boot up option so that it brings up the list of games on the HDD first.

Just something to consider. a chip is just much better than swap magic in so many ways. No more swapping discs, rebuilding or patching games, no more screen cut off with discs from other regions, it will play DVD9 back ups unlike swap magic and updates for a good chip (DMS4 Pro SE) are free.

Yeah I got my 200 GB Seagate on sale for 50$ I think. I think HD Loader v0.7c supports up to 2 Terribytes.

v7 w/ Crystal Chip 1.1, Boot Manager 1.8, and HD Loader v0.7c w/ 80 GB HD
v7 w/ DMS4 Pro and Toxic OS .41 w/ 200 GB HD
