I have tried dvdxcopy platinum and dvd shrink and when it gets to the burn process, it gets to 51% then fails everytime. I have used different types of media, burners, burning programs and evertime it fails at 51%!!!!!! And no its not just one movie I'm trying, its everyone I try. I cant count how many coasters i've made. I'm ready to give up on these programs as they cause so much conflict. Does anyone have any ideas for me? All help is greatly appreciated.

try uninstalling and reinstalling your programs

update your firmware on your drive

make sure your machine is clean (disc cleanup and defragging often)

turn off other programs while burning

try other software ,CloneDVD 2 with AnyDVD would be my choice

finally test your drive to make sure its not going bad,it may be failing

How would one go about testing "your drive to make sure its not going bad,it may be failing"? I'm worried that my drive isn't 100%. My power went out during 2 burns and it has never been the same.

I've heard this about power outages too many times and the burns not working afterwards.... Word to the wise, "Invest in a battery backup." We have them on every workstation where I work and I've got one at home on my personal machine. It's a life saver, to say nothing of saving your equipment. Save yourself some headaches and money and get one ASAP.

dbomb71,
If it is under warranty send it back. If not under warranty you can take it to a computer repair store and have them test it. Although w/ the prices being so cheap on the burners you can buy a burner cheaper than getting it repaired. You could also have gotten a power spike and that could have done something to the cables or MOBO so that is why I suggested you take it to a shop and have them check the whole computer

Hey thanks for the input guys. I mean I've tried everything that everyone suggested to me before, then I gave up and unloaded EVERYTHING... uninstalled the driver and reinstalled everything when I was done. Still it hasn't been working right. I could burn one or 2 dvds after restoring the computer to an earlier date, but then it would crap out again. I'll have the burner looked at.

Oh by the way, Car.Mike, if there was a power spike that had done something to a cable or something like that... wouldn't that affect other things as well? Everything else on my computer seems to be working just fine. The burner was the only thing that got messed up.
Thanks again guys!

You are right 99.9% but it is the .1% and that is why I posted it might be so bad to have a competent shop look at it. You can just buy another burner and start from there if you can do the install as that is easy.

I'll look into that. But it will have to wait until I come back from vacation. And I do believe my warranty is still good so I'll check and see if it's a big hassle to get it switched out. You're right though, I would probably buy a new one rather than fix it. Thanks again Mike!

I had the same problem last week. I had no other choice but to uninstall and reinstall windows. I was highly upset when that didn't work either. I needed to defragment and that fixed my problem.

Good luck.

Oh, I've tried defragmenting... that really didn't work either. It worked just as well as restoring. Thanks and glad you were able to get yours fixed.
