I just recently converted a PAL dvd to NTSC, When I viewed the completed disc I noticed that every so often the picture looks like it freezes for about a half second to a second, nothing really major but I was wondering if there is a way to fix this? I'm not sure if my burn options should be changed or if there is something else I might need to do. Any input about this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Matt

Hi. Thanks for replying. How I usually set my settings is first, I do as the picture has illustrated. Then, I go to "Video Options" and choose "High Quality" at the "Quality Settings" field then I choose "High Quality" at the "Encoding Mode" field. I was experiencing out of sync audio but I solved that problem when I started burning at a lower speed using dvd rw media, which can be set at a lower write speed. I have noticed though my dvd-rs will record up to 8x. I think my recorder only writes up to 4x though. I always thought that if a dvd-r could write up to 8x that there would be other options for it at a lower rate? I've noticed when using nero vision it doesn't give me an option at what speed I would like to burn at, it's always set at "max". Is there a way to set it at a lower burn rate? Thanks for the help

Matt

Sometimes you get that Max only thing when you dont have a disc in the drive at the start of the process.
You can look at alkohols guide on using nero, and somewhere in there is the burn settings on most programs.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/256436
Also his guide for nerovision
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/272946
I thru those in there just in case you didnt get to see them.
Nero's vision guide:
http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/User_Guide_Vision_4.html
I replied to something like this in a thread a while back, but looking back at my posts, i couldnt find it. I remember posting a screen cap of nero without a disc in, and with it in, but that post is hiding from me.

Thanks for the replies. I just wonder if the reason why it freezes is because of the conversion from PAL to NTSC? I also tried burning a converted NTSC dvd onto a DVD+RW disc and after it burnt my computer didn't recognize the disc. Which seems really strange to me considering my burner uses "r" and "rw" media. Now I'm afraid to experiment with rws because I'm worried that I won't be able to use them again. I checked out the NeroVision guide that was suggested in the last post and everything recommended there is what I do, so I'm not sure what else to try. Any other suggestions or info will be appreciated. Thanks

Converting from PAL to NTSC shouldnt interfere with the final quality outcome. I am sure that there is an option to select burn speed using NVE but as I have deleted all my movie files I cannot go to completion of NVE process.
I am pretty sure it comes towards the end , just before you click Burn. You will find it under Recording Settings.

Your burner firmware may need updating, post your burner details, brand model etc and someone will take a look.

What brand of disc are you using.

Thanks for the reply. I just updated the firmware for my burner about 5 months ago, so I wouldn't think that's the problem. I usually use Maxell and Memorex discs and have never had really any problems with them. I think what I am going to do is do the conversion over later today and check the quality before burning to see if it does it. That should tell me what I need to know. I will keep you all posted. Thanks again

I dont think I need to say much more, you've just solved your own problem, neither of these discs are of good quality and more than likely ARE the cause of your problem.
Media made by CMC Mag is probably the worst you can use, read this

I know people who have had to update their firmware the same day as they took their burner out of its box.

Obviously you know more than us so GOOD LUCK>

Well, gwendolin, if I had a problem and wanted it fixed, I think I would listen to the people that have been on the forum longer than I have. As you say he knows more than the rest of us. Later

Whoa. I never said anything about "knowing" more than anyone, so do not put words in my mouth. I came on here asking for help which I got. I'm just not going to go out and buy different media until I try one more time and see what happens at a lower burn speed. It's obvious the problem could be the burn speed was set to high or why would I have been asked what speed I was burning at? If that doesn't fix the problem then I will try different media and check into a firmware update. But never did I once say I knew more than anyone else. If that was the case I wouldn't even needed to make this thread would I?

Matt75, I stand corrected then but that's for assuming something that wasn't. gwendolin did point out that the media you wre using wasn't the best. Memorex is never used, Maxell is used if it id's to Ty's.
gwendolin did say that your firm ware might be outdated, that's something you should check all the time. And also bad media may not give a problem while burning but wait a few months. I had to learn the hard way when all of a sudden some of my backup quit playing. Later

The type of media CAN and does cause your burns to fail, thanks for the support, Cheers.

Matt75 will be back soon with problems if he continues to ignore advice.

Gwendolin, I'd really like to know where you get off thinking that I am ignoring advice? What makes you think I don't like the replies you all have given me? Was I not polite and courteous on all the posts I made on this thread? I think you need to not jump to conclusions so quickly because by doing that other people that really need help, like myself, sure won't post on here with the chance of someone like you assuming things that just aren't quite true. Now I'm going to do the mature thing here and walk away from this thread. Thanks again for all the help and suggestions

I think Gwendolin was just trying to help you, and one of your replies hinted that you might be stubborn, or start to cop an attitude. Ill show you what i mean:
Quote:

Now from that, i would expect an arguement from you if i suggested changing media, or updating firmware as that response implys you dont think firmware is an issue (I wouldn't think that's the problem), or media (I usually use Maxell and Memorex discs and have never had really any problems with them.). Just reading in to things. See, we have run into many ppl who have problems, and they start a word war when we suggest changing something. It burns you out after awhile, or at least gets me on edge when i have to defend my suggestions.

Gwendolin can speak for herself, im just telling you the way i saw it here looking at those posts. If i start getting what i think is "attitude", or "i dont think this is a problem", my willingness to help goes way down. So, dont take it too personal. We have been thru many pointless battles here at AD lately, and its getting to me, and im sure Gwendolin feels it too. The stress levels are way up, and all we are trying to do is help ppl. Most are complete strangers, and we help for free.

Whatever works for you is fine by me, but we suggest specific media, and firmware updates whenever someone experiences playback issues like you posted. Reducing burn speed can help, but usually the biggest change is when you get good media, and firmware updates.

Good Luck :)
