Ok here is my problem, but before you say it yes I have search the forums and have not found any answer yet. Now on to the problem. I am trying to use Nero's multiple recorder feature to burn 2 dvds of the same movie but I keep getting buffer fluctuations like crazy both drives are racing back and forth. The burn that should take 6 min takes 20 or more. Now here is what I have done to eliminate factors that could be the source of the problem.
1. I checked the transfer mode in device manager and it is set on ultra dma 2
2. I have bought quality media verbatim 16x +R
3. I have made sure that I have enough ram 2GB (2 1gb dimms)
4. I have made sure that everything that can be turned off is off
5. They burners are the same model BenQ 1655
6. I have also tried to burn 2 cd-r with a 655mb file but again I get the same racing in the buffer level up and down
7. Tried two different versions of Nero 6 and 7 same result (both new demo versions)
What really threw me was that I could not even burn two cds at 40x. It makes me think that the problem lies in Nero. Now here are my specs on my computer, it is not a monster but it should have no problem doing this
AMD 64x2 4400
OCZ 2GB (2 1gb dimms) DDR400
Asus A8N SLI deluxe
Evga 7800GTX
2 Benq 1655
4 Raptors 74GB HDD in raid 0
Creative X-fi
Antec Neo 480
Windows XP sp2
This is a new build about 2 months old
I have driven myself mad trying to fix this please let me know what you think no matter how crazy it sounds.
Just a quick glance, but it looks like your system should be able to handle this. If you post a burn log, it will show if you are having any major conflicts. It should be here:
Nero 6 history log location: Program Files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.txt
Nero 7 history log location: Program Files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>NeroHistory.txt
These things record all burns, and we only need the last one. The burns are seperated by something like this
Quote: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
====== *** NeroAPI, History File *** ======
Windows XP 5.1
IA32-xxxx-xxxx-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
that was from a Nero 6 log, but 7 looks much like that. Underneath the divider is the operating system, and right below that is the begining of the serial number. When posting a log, just include the last burn log, and edit out your serial numbers by typing xxxx over them.
And if i read your post correctly you are doing

is that at the same time? A dual burn? Just wondering, as i know 2 and more have been done at the same time before. But if your doing 2 at once, the buffer thing would make be logical to me as they get the data in the buffer in probably a 50% duty cycle for a dual burn.

and i know this doesnt solve your problem, but burn one at 6 minutes, followed by burning another one at 6 minutes using one drive, total time = 12 minutes for 2 copies, vs more than 20 minutes using the dual burn method to get 2 copies... Just a thought..
My new Pioneer 110 came in today so I just swapped it with the 109 and then added the 109 on the primary IDE.
I added the Pioneer as slave off the primary IDE. The ROM and Pioneer 110 are on the secondary IDE, ROM set as master.
The buffers fluctuate but nothing too dramatic at 4x. I did a simulation at 12X and that probably would have failed with a buffer underrun. The fluctuations were a lot worse.
I have the same type and amount of RAM so other than dual processors we have a similar set-up. Burning doesn't appear to be processor intensive anyhow.
What burn speed are you using? Did you do a simulation? If you did, could you post the burn log?
Well men I think I have found the problem and it is my NVIDIA ata drivers after more testing, a lot of coasters later and blood shot eyes from reading forums. I have found the problem but doubt I will be able to fix it because tweaking drivers is a little past my skill. Again thanks for your time.
