Hi. I have been into DVD authoring for about 6 months now and have created some fine DVDs. I usually use DVD Lab and a conversion program to create the mpv/mp2/mpa files first. I also use Sony DVD Architect.
I have a whole host of other utilities and programs for video and audio as I'm sure most of you do too.
the problem:
I recently made a DVD the usual way of some old pink panther cartoons that a friend ripped from VHS to Xvid.
I did the conversion and everything seemed as usual..no problems etc.
I always create an ISO image with nero first and then load that with WinDVD to view the finished article if you like..so I don't waste Discs burning something that hasn't worked. I did this and the ISO worked fine, menus ok and every cartoon on there was rendering in great quality...bla bla bla.
I made the disc.
Put the disc into my player..a DK Digital DVD/Mpeg-4/etc player and the audio came on suddenly loud, as if someone had hit the audio button to go right from quiet to full instantly.
Like the kind of noise you sometimes get on a badly encoded mpeg file that has audio glitches?
Anyway I let the movie play on and it was horrendous! The audio made it unwatchable. It was going from unbelievable quiet and almost muffled to sudden, half second L-O-U-D spots every few seconds or more, then back to muffled or quiet!
This is not good.
I played the disc in the PC through my Pioneer DV110 and again, whatever software I played it with, it played absolutely fine. audio and picture perfect!
Confused?
Me too!

Since that day I have actually retried to do the same Disc, starting from scratch, changing the order of the cartoons, recoding the film files through Vdib, recoding through other software and everything I can think of!!
I have wasted so many DVDs now that it is getting expensive!
Oh and I have tried making DVDs of other movie files too all with the same result!

I can only think that somewhere along the line I have installed a movie editing trial, as I always do when I get a magazine CD or see a new program, and maybe it has installed some rogue or corrupted Audio Codec on my PC?
Would I be going in the right direction with this theory?

anyway I am now thinking or reinstalling XP, something I haven't had to do since bulding this pc 6 months ago :(
I just cannot safford to keep testing this error as the only way to find out if I have corrected it is to burn a disc. then I have wasted another disc!
I'm too poor for that!

Pleae, if you have ANYthing AT ALL to offer that you think might help or even might now, reply here.
Thanks.
