Hello. I am having trouble with burning dual layer discs. I am using a brand new Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-1693S. I am using DVD Shrink 3.2 and burning with Nero 6.6.1.4 onto Verbatim 2.4X DVD+R DL. The burn process goes fine and I can view the finished DVD on Power DVD. But when I put the DVD in my DVD player, I cannot view any title that spans both layer 1 and layer 2. For example, if I put the main title and 2 bonus features on a disc, the main movie (title 1) cannot be viewed and the DVD player starts to play title 2. Another example, a DVD with 6 equally sized titles plays fine, with the exception of the middle title, which won't play. Any ideas? Thank you very much for your help.

May be a combination of things so let's start w/ this - your last dual layer log from Nero - you can find it here: program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory.txt. Make sure you edit out your serial # - they usually begin w/ 1A or 1C.
Another prog I use for the occasionally dual layer is DVD Decrypter - rip and burn in iso mode - you may want to try that.

Players can also be picky esp. w/ dual layer media - is there another player you can try it on also?

Personally I would go for Binkie's second suggestion. Rip to HDD first using DVD Decrypter in ISO read mode and then burn the resulting MDS file in ISO write mode. Be sure to burn from the MDS file as it contains the layer break information.

Are you trying to back up one movie DVD disc and the extras on it? If so why are you using Shrink for a DL DVD disc. If you have AnyDVD, you can simply copy the DVD to DL Disc with Nero Disc copy. Or use free ripper (DVDFab Decrypter) to rip the files to HDD and then burn files to DL disc with NeroXpress.

Thank you all for responding. One reason I use DVD Shrink is because I can add titles from different discs. For example, some DVD's have movie on one side and extras on other side. Also I like putting 2 movies on one disc. Plus I like getting rid of menus. I'll try using DVD Decrypter.

Yep shrink is the free way to do this - Nero will do it too but like garmoon pointed out you'll need AnyDVD running in the background if the disc is copy protected. In DVD Decrypter though you can't add files - you can do movie only though - unless you create an iso that decrypter can burn w/ something like shrink or Nero.

Txs for pointing out the .mds file!!

I just did another disc that works 100% fine on my PC through Power DVD, but will not work on either of my stand-alone DVD players. Obviously it's burning the disc somewhat correctly. Is it possible there is a setting or something I need to change? I can't think of any reason why the disc will work fine in the PC but not the DVD player. Any ideas? Thanks

Your dvd player may not like the media. The only thing you can do is try book typing the discs to dvd rom if you burner supportsd. If not bo buy another brand and see if you player likes it. Or buy a mpeg player and just convert all your discs into mpegs. Thats what Im thinking of doing, cause finding a player is tough.:.

Make sure your liteon is up to date on the firmware also- the latest is KSOB. Your drive supports booktyping so I would follow ozzy214 excellent suggestion and booktype these discs. Here's a guide that explains it and shows where to go in Nero to set it:

I don't know what speed your burning at but you might want to try 2x.
