It looks like Nero doesnt like your media.

At the firmware site, i didnt see your firmware version listed for that drive. I did see a 205C but if yours is 205D, it must be a dell OEM?? Im not sure about that.
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces

But according to Nero, it didnt see your media, or like it. All Nero could tell was it was a +R. Try a Verbatim, or Sony, Maxell, Fuji, if Made in Japan is on spindle.
Good media is easy to change to, and worth trying before writing off your current media choice as not being a problem because it is "better media". I couldnt tell what brand of media you were using from the log.

Nothing else is poping out at me right now from this log.

I'm currently using Verbatim media and the burner seemed ok with it as i made 4 or 5 successful burns. Its an NEC OEM drive that i have and another member suggested the firmware update.

If i use a disc and the burn log fails appears right at the start of the burn, do i need to dispense of that disc or can it be used again, if the burn did not actually start?? I think i may have used a disc like that in the instance.

I call that one a coaster and dont try to use it again. You could check the disc status with Nero cd-dvd speed and one tab is media. It should come up as blank-dvd if it didnt get written to. But many times the process will start with the lead-in being burnt and if that was done, the disc cant be used again, if its not a RW disc. Verbs are great media so something weird is going on. Im not sure about your firmware. I clicked on the one i provided, and thats not the one i ment to post. I had too many screens open, and pasted from the wrong one. Sorry about that.
Here is what i was trying to put up:
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1837
Nero is reporting 205D but i only see the 205C there. This site might not be updated for that drive right now. Id check the NEC site, and see what they list as firmware version for that drive. Im not going to look for it right now, but you can. :)

This is the only information I can find on the NEC website. Does this mean anything to you?

NEC will not have fw for this burner because it is a Dell OEM and Dell has its own fw for the drive that will run with their computers. Current at the rpc site is the 2.05C, you are using a hacked ver. from another site.

Thanks arniebear.
I couldnt figure that one out, and the NEC site listed was a pain to navigate.
That hacked firmware may be the main problem here, but i dont think you can go back to 205C.

You can try to go back but I have found that NEC is not one that likes to flash back. Here is the NEC site that lists fw for true NEC.

Thanks for all the info. I just tried another burn and it was successful! I think the problem may have been the discs i was using earlier from previous failed burns.

The firmware i have now was recommended by another member via this site http://support.necsam.com/optical/downloads//FlashFirmware/

and that's where i downloaded it from so i'm unsure how it can be a hacked version?

If you dl from the NEC site then you are okay, however NEC shows there ver as 2.18 since I do not have this particular NEC drive I have a 1300a it may change the number after you flash. I know that there is a modified ver 2.05d so maybe they are the same.
