Im currently working in the US and I came across with my English laptop.I checked the web for best Region Free Prog I could download and it seemed DVD43 was the best available to do the job. Downloaded it, put in my US film to watch, face went from Yellow to devil (normal,I was told since its trying to break all codes), then to green (ready to play), clicked on WinDVD to start playing the film and a window came up asking me to change my DVD drive hardware from region 2 to region 1, and after the selection I would only have 3 other changes available.

So all in all, I could of done it myself via My Computer /Device Manager/DVD drive etc etc.

I was expecting DVD43 too just break the region without changing any of my hardware settings? Could anyone explain what went wrong (or is that normal, DVD43 just changes your hardware setting for your DVD drive and after 4 changes thats it.) and how do I revert back to Region 2 in the future.

Well DVD43 should go green after the disc finishes reading... but it should not change your regions. Its just an engine that breaks the regional coding so that u can back up the movie using a burning program. e.g. CloneDVD 2.

To play a movie it should not change your system settings permeanatly, maybe it was changin cause the movie had that regional coding on it in the first place...

DVD43 isn't designed to do what you're asking, it's meant to crack copy protection on DVDs for backup purposes (and it's not very good at that either, it can cuse more problems that it solves). I would recommend uninstalling DVD43 and trying DVD Region+CSS Free Lite form dvdidle, it's not free ($24.95 US) but will do what you're asking. DVD Region+CSS Free Lite works automatically in the background to make a DVD appear region code free and unprotected to any DVD player and DVD copy software.

Check it out here:

If you plan on backing up alot of your personal DVDs, another good software package (also not free) to try is anydvd. You can remove the RPC region code, thereby making the movie region free and viewable on any DVD player and with any DVD player software.

Check it out here:
http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html

Try these apps and put your burner's region code to where it was without fear of not being able to view the DVDs.

johnl

Thanks for the advice. I checked out the web site you gave me and I have downloaded the dvd-region-free-lite 30day trial. Ive put in a US DVD and no problem (not since DVD43 got me to change over the DVD hardware setting yesterday evening), I then put in an English DVD, and the outcome is very jerky, jumpy, skips scenes etc? Any ideas?

It would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Did you uninstall DVD43?

Try using microsoft's windows media player watch the DVD with instead of WinDVD.

Another player that's very good is Media Player Classic, it seems to play anything very well, no installation required and it's free.

Get it here for windows 2000/xp:

Get it here for windows 98/ME:

Make sure you're not running any other applications in the backround that maybe CPU intensive, the player and any of those applications maybe fighting for CPU time.

If you're still having playback problems, try AnyDVD, it comes with a 21 day free trial.
