I just purchased a BENQ DW1625 dvd burner with lightscribe, it works great, the labels come out excellent, but does anyone heard when we are going to see this technology done in colour? i have heard rumours and read that they have been released in certain parts of the world, discs in different colours , but will it actually look like a store bought dvd once ran thru lightscribe in colour? anyone?
thanks

Unless I'm mistaken, as of right now, there is no lightscribe in color. You can print directly onto the disc with the proper printer, and some lightscribe discs come in different colors, but there is no burning a label in color.

From what I have read Mr_Pink is correct. I believe they are only going to have different colors as opposed to the goldish one now. You'll just get different shades of the color you bought like the goldish ones now.
Now I did read that they have improved the chemical/dye(?) that you burn the label to and this will cut the time down on burning a label. It sounded pretty significant and you wouldn't have to do any firmware upgrades to your burners.

I just purchased a new PC with lightscribe capabilities, but i cant get it to burn the design i created for the lightscribe CD. It tells me that i need to flip the CD with the data side up so it will work, and although i do this, it insists on making me mad by refusing to comply with my commands!!! If anyone could please help me diagnose the problem, you would save my PC's life since i am considering kicking its chassis ass and sticking USB cables where they're not supposed to go....

Steelankh - I'm sure you know but just to be sure, data side up means the top or label side down.

Steelankh -
It sounds like your burner is having trouble recognizing your media as lightscribe. This may be because the disk you are using is not recognized by your drive, so it has no write strategy.
Lightscribe is a fairly new technology that is being improved daily, and new lightscribe media is becoming more prevalent. Although your computer is new, you may need to see if you can find a new version of firmware for your burner. I have only had my burner for 2 months and they have already came out with a new firmware that improves compatability/write strategy with different lightscribe media.
You could also try updating your lightscribe host software at this link:
http://www.lightscribe.com/support/index.aspx?id=305
The LightScribe System Software ties your labeling application software to your optical drive hardware. New LightScribe System Software updates are needed to support new hardware or recently introduced LightScribe CDs and DVDs, and will ensure optimal and reliable operation of your LightScribe Labeling system.

@Steelankh;
As beltline said, "Golden Side Down", "Shinny Side Up". I'm sure that is what you did, but just checking.
The only time I have had any issues with my Benq 1625, is a few times when there was cat hair or dust on the disc. Apparently it doesn't take much. If you look at the inner ring (Golden Side up), there is a kind of colorful ring, that is where the info is located to tell the burner that it is a LightScribe Disc. One cat hair on that and it seems to not want to respond properly. Happens very rarely.
But all and all, I absolutly love my LightScribe Burner! Just hope that the price of the disc's go down soon. :(

Beltline-
Found this post on LightScribes web page today regaurding speed enhancement:
Quote: LightScribe has announced a speed enhancement to be available in early 2006. The enhancement comes from changes made to the discs themselves, and these new media will be compatible with the existing drive. So if you were to buy a drive now, you would be able to take advantage of the faster discs when they are available.
You would not have to upgrade your firmware to use these new disks. When you insert the new media in your drive the first time, you will be prompted to download an easy and free driver update.

It would have to look a heck of a lot better and a lot faster. I love my 1655 for burning but my epson 220 looks a lot better, a lot more original and is done in about 3 minutes. Lightscribe in one color, pale in my opinion and taking 30 minutes to complete just don't get it. JMO

Definately not as good as inkjet printing, but I still like the price. I think I paid and extra $15 over the price of the BenQ 1640 (non lightscribe)to buy the BenQ 1655 which does have lightscribe technology.
