I'm working with The Office UK Series/Season 1. DVD Shrink is unable to compress to 4.7. Gives me an error message that the file will be too big and I should remove extras/audio tracks and make sure the compression is set to Automatic.
Compression is on automatic and all extras removed, all subpictures gone. It has me at 4,850 MB - I tried to do custom compression on each episode but it won't change the sizes.
I then switched and used DVD Decrypter to rip and tried Nero to compress but the same exact issue. So now I have 8.4 gigs sitting on my laptop and no clue how to handle this.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you as always.
Thanks,
SB

Also, if your burner is a double layer burner, get some Verbatim DL discs and burn to one of those. Then there will be no compression at all, and can still get everything on it.
Good luck!
BTW.........
For future reference............. Nero doesn't compress, unless Nero's new Recode does. I don't have Recode, so don't know anything about it yet.

Yes Nero Recode2 does compress just like Shrink. Works better than Shrink (faster also) In fact both proggys same author.

Nero does have compression capabilities. I wish I had dual layer, but no such luck.
So AnyDVD will have a better compression ability and can handle this you're saying? Why would DVD Shrink and Nero both not be able to compress this DVD properly but AnyDVD can?
Thanks,
SB

I've heard some people say run it through shrink twice. I've never done it but maybe it will make it small enough for a single layer disc.

Also Any Dvd only deals with copy protection. Nothing to do with compression.

what I can suggest is rip the DVD to your Hard Drive with DVD Fab Decrypter then run the files through VOB BLANKER and blank out anything you don't want.. (Trailers , intros , Ads etc etc) and then see if it will compress enough to fit onto a DVD-R/+R

Don't bemoan the fact that you don't have a DL burner at $2.00 a disc (on sale) I still use DVD 4.7s most of the time. The DLs are for special movies. And bigt1 is right, AnyDVD has nothing to do with compression.

Vobblanker is a good idea because sometimes using the "still image" feature in Shrink leaves large blocks of crap when it stills footage. Vobblanker takes it down to basically nothing on the disc and that may help you shoehorn your DVD.
Personally, I think the best way is to rip the disc in half. 2 episodes on one disc, 2 on the other. Maybe it'll be like 5 on one 5 on another for a 22min show.
Here's what I'd do; Rip the disc to PC. Use Vobblanker to blank out the last two episodes (or however many needed to split the disc in 2) on the disc, output a new video_TS, and then burn. Then use vobblanker to blank out the first two episodes (or however many), output a new video_ts and burn. Now you have 2 discs with fully uncompressed episodes, and the menus without shrinking at all.

I knew that Shrink and Recode were written by the same guy. I just didn't realize that Recode would compress too. I thought it just ripped, and burned, like DVD Decrypter. I learned something new today! :o)
He quit updating Shrink because he went to work for Nero. To keep updating Shrink would have been a conflict of interest, and would have had him fired from Nero.

sbarruf- If you are using shrink did you try Re- Authoring your project/disc with just say the movie itself ? No trailers , commercials or bonus material?

BIGTOXY69 just gave the best advice as far as editing goes with Shrink. As for transcoders, Shrink is hard to beat. Recode 2 and the Clonedvd 2 are good as well, I don't intend to belittle them, we all have our favorites. I like DVD Copy 4 myself, as far as transcoders go. For the large projects, deep analysis and the quality settings should be selected with Shrink. This is a rather large set of files to be using with a transcoder. A program such as RB can be used with a true encoder. The HC encoder is free, though slower than the retail CCE. Encoders are much better for big files than transcoders. With RB and HC, it's a free setup. Help threads are avialable (there's a Rebuilder section to the forum here at AD) and the installer and all that's needed is at http://www.dvd-rb.com .
