To back up your PS2 Games you must have correct software, latest version firmware on your DVD-Writer and blank DVD disc's of reasonably good quality, preferably Verbatim 8X DVD-R's.

Using Nero open up ''Nero StartSmart'' and go to Copy and Backup click copy DVDthen select where you would like to copy from and burn to..

Then simply hit copy, and thats it!

I don't know where I can downlaod firmware. Are there spicifiek options that you need to activate in nero, or do you need to make a image.

you can get firmware updates here -
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php
make sure you install it correctly or you will fry your burner

make sure you are using quality media as cheap media will cause errors

ok you will only need to update your firmware if your old firmware is out of date - DVD Decrypter will back up ps2 games (free download do a google search)

look at this link for how to check your firmware -

Well I did this but believe it or not it didn't work. The console still give the error: insert a playstation or ps2 disk. Now I need to tell that I'm using TDK DVD+RW 700MB DVD's.

If your PS2 isn't modded or chipped a backup (copy) isn't going to work AT ALL... There is NO WAY to backup a PS2 game with a MOD of some kind..

Modchip , Fliptop or Slidecard with Swapmagic Discs
0R
Memory Card Exploit & Hard Drive installed in PS2 with HDLOADER or USBEXTREME

Tmfloria is right, you have to have a mod of some kind to be able to use backup games.
Also, ps2's can't read RW media.

I am also new to this copying thing and am having trouble and would appreciate help. I used DVD Decrypter to copy a PS2 dvd and when I use my swap magic 2 dvd it still doesn't work. It takes forever to load and stuff. I am using the compusa brand DVD's that are 2x speed, is that the issue? I have a fliptop in my PS2 that I installed. Your help is appreciated.

Try using better media, preferably Taiyo Yuden, Ritek, Verbatim or the like.
Also, keep in mind that a lot of games need to be rebuilt in order for them to properly work with swap magic.

Not to sound stupid, but I am. What do you mean by rebuilt? How do I do this. As I stated I'm using DVD Decrypter to both rip and burn. Do I need something else? I will try the different media thing though to see how that goes.

You CANNOT D/L Swapmagic!
well you can but it won't work...

Swapmagic is a pressed Disc with unreadable sectors that only the PS2 can read and needs.... so D/L'ing it will do not good...

has to be an ORIG

Hey I have a quick question. I have a DMS4 Lite in my PS2. If I burnt a PS2 game on a cheap DVD and tried loading it and it said "please insert a Playstation or Playstation 2 disk" or something like that. Would that be normal if you were trying to burn on cheap media or is there a hardware problem?

That could be considered normal with cheap media.
I take it you have other backups that do work?

So... I.m new at this, I have a pretty good idea on how to burn or "back-up" PS2 games using DVD Decrypter, My question is....is it better to use SWAP MAGIC or a Mod chip or tell me the pros and cons of them both

THANKS

No I don't have any other backups that worked because I got my PS2 modded a couple of months ago and when I tried making a back up it didn't work so I just figured it was a problem with the way the chip was installed.
