Hi!
I Have A Pionner dvd player that can play both dvd+r and dvd-r medias.
My question is: Which media is better to buy? (Quality,credibility...) the +r or the -r?
because my player can play them both without any problems.

Thanks.

shayal- Hi There ! The thing with Dvd Media is as long as we are talking Apples and apples DVD+R or DVD-R of equal quality brands like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim and not say a Cheap DVD-R up against a Premium DVD+R or vice versa There is not much difference between the two ! DVD-R tends to be slightly more compatable with most players of various ages & manufacturers The only advantage in DVD+R comes in when you Booktype your DVD+R media to DVD-Rom = Some burners allow this some don't Basically Booktyping fools your drive or player into thinking that a DVD-Rom ( commercial Pressed movie or game /software ) has been inserted instead of a Homemade Burn of the same ! Thus if you are going to booktype you would choose either DVD+R or DVD+RW media as these will allow this whereas DVD-R will not ! But if your not having compatablity problems and your player Plays either equally well Buy whichever Type DVD-R or DVD+R that you like or can get the best price on ! At regular stores the prices for either type media will be about the same ! On-line stores tend to charge more for DVD+R media why I'm not really sure but it sure seems that way . As long as you stick with quality media - like Taiyo Yuden , Verbatim , Ritek /maxell ect. you should be fine ! hope this helps out somewhat Happy Burning & good luck !

DVD-R was the first one of the two formats to be created ... But because the creators of DVD+R were able to learn from the flaws in the DVD-R design, DVD+R has become a better format ... Read my link about this in my sig for the technical explaination ...

I have a sony dvd burner that works with botn DVD-R or DVD+R and for me there's no difference both cost practically the same, but what you should check is the Double Layer for greater capacity.

Pioneer: Usually stand alone players are more compatable with their dash backups. These drives don't have bit-setting capability to booktype, unless you have hacked/crossflashed firmware.

Dvd+r and dvd-r:

It's all about compatability. It's the stand alone players/game consoles/and other pc drives that you plan on playing your backups in.They will tell you which format that they'll play,or else you'll get a: No disc/Dirty disc/Wrong format/Wrong region/or similar code when you come across a stand alone player that doesn't like your backups.

Make sure it is quality media. That can prevent a whole slew of issues from occuring, and it's those stand alone players that will show issues during playback.

You may want to try a few backups in both formats. Then test them out in all the players that your backups may play in. This includes yourself/friends/and family members who happen to get a backup disc from you. When it comes to stand alone compatability, that's why I booktype all my plus backups to dvd-rom.

Quality media+ Quality drive=Quality backups!
