NOTE: My DVD player can play avi files, so I DO NOT want to convert these files.

Hello! My first post here! :)

I have ten .avi files of a TV show that total up to be about ~4GB. I would like to put these on a DVD, but need a menu, so that I can select which episode I want to watch. I've tried DVDLab, but couldn't get it to do that. Know of any other programs that might help out? Thanks!

go to convertxtodvd.com and download their trial version of convertxtodvd and see if this program will work for you.

Hi Draugr,
Welcome to aD :^)
So you can fit ~10 hours of AVI movies on a regular DVD with room to spare - pretty sweet right?
What happens when you just copy them all to the root of the DVD, just copy all the AVIs disk-at-once and seal the disk?
I do that with just 1 movie, and when you put it in the player it just starts playing, pretty kewl.
Anyway, you want a DVD menu for AVI content right?
Yeesh, that's a tough one...
If anyone would have that Doom9.org would know about it ;^)
But we're still a bigger/better site than they are!
Wish I could help more,

@permatex

Do you know how to get it to just burn the DVD? It seems to only allow me to convert... Thanks for the suggestion.

@The_OGS

I haven't tried just putting them all into the root of the DVD, and although I doubt it will work, I'll try it.

Well, my DVD player plays them all like they are seperate chapters. This, as you can imagine, make it very difficult to know which episode is which, etc.

If only I can find some program that lets you create a simple menu while leaving the avi's unconverted...

Convertxto dvd will not burn avi files. It will only burn a video TS folder with dvd/vob files in it. I would suggest converting the files anyway then burning straight on to a Disc. That way if your future DVD players do not play AVI files at least you know they will play the discs. The only drwawback I believe will be trying to get 4gb on to 1 disc. Thats a toughy. better options if you convert first. DVD shrink should then be able to burn through Nero and fit on to one disk. However, if you are absolutely steadfast about not converting I do not have much ability to help.

have been using convertxtodvd for some time now,i capture movies from the tv in AVI format,transfer the AVI to convertxtodvd,convertxtodvd convert the AVI files to mpeg format required for dvd,if your target size selected is DVD-5 convertxtodvd will shrink to fit.you can also select DVD-9 if you have double layer capability.when convertxtodvd encode,convert and shrink it will burn a dvd that can be played on any dvd player.keep in mind that some quality is lost the more you shrink.

If I may just touch on the "shrink to fit" you mentioned. When I convert and burn files it shows duration 1hr:45min and file size on media as 2.2gb. However when I have converted the program always asks me for a dual layer disc. I do not have dual layer discs. Do you have any idea why that might be? Especially as you say convertxtodvd will shrink to fit. By the way total time added up in the screen is 1hr:42min.

to ianmerc-double check your setup where you select d-5 or d-9, convertxtodvd will ask for a double layer disk if d-9 was selected.on the other hand if d-5 was selected and the program calls for a double layer disk the most probable cause would be the file is too big for a d-5 burn.this program seem to have a shrink limit that would output a fair quality dvd.

If you have Nero, try nerovision. You simply add the individual files (I usually put 5 episodes on one DVD). You can make a simple menu, even chapters if you want. It will take a few hours to convert and the file for me is usually about 8.8 GB when finished converting to the hard drive. I then run through shrink and burn. Viola! Don't forget to delete the 8.8GB after shrinking or your hard drive will be used up pretty quick.

There is probably a guide here for how to do it. It's very user friendly.

Thanks for the response. I did select dvd 5 when setting up so that is not the issue. I am trying to figure out how my filees are tto big when they show only 2.2gb. Even when they are on the hard drive they still show the same.

I'm suprised that no one has designed a program that allows you to do what I want to do. With DivX players being more and more common I would have thought that the demand for such a program would be high... Obviously, I thought wrong. :P

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions!
