For me, if you can get disc quality scores in the 90s and no playback issues, whatever speed you are burning at is fine. I saw some skipping/freezing on an 8x copy i did on Ty media. Now this was on a cheap player at another location, and it may have been the player, but i backed off to 6x burns. Call me conservative, but id rather take a little more time burning, and get good results. Again, whatever works for each person is fine, i have no great fear of fast burns. Time has a different meaning for me. Waiting 3, or 30 minutes for a burn, it all depends on whats going to give me the best quality. (i like to get 2 or less pifs.) I live with the time delay. I find something else to do other than stare at the blinking drive light. Ive done more than one 16x burn, and the scores, though acceptable, were not as good as the same thing burnt at 8x or less. Thats just my system, and my case, but its the most important one to me. One of my drives actually produces less errors when burning at 8x rather than 4x. Like doc, i dont do a whole lot of scans on my discs. I barely have time to watch them, and have a stack of ones i have never watched.
