I have a folder on my computer with AVI files stored in it. It adds up to 2.14GB. I wanted to create a DVD with menus etc. and was using Roxio's "My DVD LE" to create it, but when I import the AVIs into it, it says that its 35GB over the DVD's capacity?! Any help? Am I doing something wrong or alternatively is there a way to shrink the files? I tried using DVD Shrink, but that only works on actual DVDs that you are copying / have saved on your computer?

2.14GB of AVI files is a really large file considering the average movie of 2 hours is around 700mb in AVI format so on calculation that would be around 6plus hours of Movie files after conversion.

I have NEVER used Roxio but I DO NOT recommend you having BOTH Roxio and Nero installed as they conflict.

How do they conflict? Yeah, its a few separate AVI files (i.e. a series of a TV show) and I wanted to create menus on the DVD to choose each episode - the only reason I used Roxio. Any advice on how I could do this without the files becoming huge?

Mostly some old timers like ScubaPete started the myth about Roxio and it caught on because the batch writing software caused problems. Not to say that the older Roxio apps didn't cause problems on a few systems, then other apps have done the same. The problem had a lot to do with the batch writing software, drag to disc with Roxio. Nero had the same problem with InCD. Another problem with the old Roxio was some interference caused by some of the drivers. In those rare instances, the software had to be removed or remain the only recording suite on the PC. Apps like Pinnacle with it's batch writing software could cause similar problems. If the software isn't causing a problem, don't worry about it. Your oversized AVI files appear to be another issue.

Gwendolin touched on the converted files being oversized when being converted to DVD. If you burn the files directly to DVD as AVI files, then no problem. I don't know of any apps for doing menus on AVI files, you can ask around. If you want to do the conversions, it sounds as though you have more than one movie, you will need to compile and transcode the separate movies as necessary. 4.37GB per DVD5 and about 8.5GB per DL is the content per DVD depending on the one used. Nero Vision 4 will do the AVI to DVD conversion and it has an option for titles. You can read up on how it works from help files you can download from the Nero website.
