It looks like the disc you used is not empty. If you tried once to burn and you had a failed burn, even right at the begining of the process, the disc might be unusable. You have to use a brand new disc.
What kind of media do you use? You have to use some quality discs, like Verbatim, Sony or Maxell MIJ, or Taiyo Yuden if you buy on-line.
You have to turn DMA on for your burner.
http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/blog_entry.cfm/231/dmaissues
And slow down the burn speed to X4.
Your nero version is also behind, so I would update using oneof the following links:
http://httpdl2.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe
I have the same burner that you have. I flashed with a modified firmware from Liggy, and now I am able to booktype the DVD+Rs for greater compatibility with DVD players. It works great.
Piss me off, and I Will ignore You!

cyprusrom,
Thank for the reply. I tried to follow your advice and try to turn on my DMA (even though I have no idea what that is) but so far i stil have the problem with it, it keep show "PIO Only" but the wierd thing is it was show "DMA if available" before. When I run Nero info toolkit still said NEC DMA is still "off" for some reason. I tried atleast 5 times but still no luck, do you think I might have defective Burner? I also try to update Nero likes you recomended. I used Fujifilm DVD+R, and I did replaced the after find out that the dvd is un-usable. I'm really stuck, would be appreciate any other help. Thanks again!

Burning at 16X is not helping at all, especially if you are in PIO.

Hee is my guide for fixing DMA problems.

Look at the part near the bottom about Uninstalling the Secondary IDE channel.

just passing thru again and a few things caught my eye....
Quote: Recorder: <_NEC DVD_RW ND-3550A> Version: 1.05
- firmware is up to date - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1904 however see further down where the firmware isn't ne enough to recognose those particular discs you're trying to use..
Quote: Connected to MMC as unknown drive with class-nr : 1
Drive is autodetected - recorder class: Std. MMC recorder
- as per cyprusrom, Nero's too old to recognise your burner, you need to update Nero or you won't get much further

CdRomPeripheral : _NEC DVD_RW ND-3550A atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: Off
DiskPeripheral : ST380819AS atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On
- this isn't really any different to other methods for fixing DMA, but it's worth a try (be very careful with regedit or you could hose your registry) - Quote: Run REGEDIT. Go to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
It has subkeys like 0000, 0001, 0002, etc. Normally 0001 is the primary IDE channel, 0002 the secondary, but other numbers can occur under certain circumstances. You have to go through these subkeys and check the DriverDesc value until you find the proper IDE channel.
Delete MasterIdDataChecksum or SlaveIdDataChecksum, depending on whether the device in question is attached as master or slave, but it can't actually hurt to delete both. Reboot. The drive DMA capabilities will be redetected.
2006-01-19 ? Horst Schülke wrote that it is sufficient to empty the content of these values. But you can also delete the values entirely. Windows will automatically recreate them anyway, with new content.
Open Device Manager again and check whether the device is now actually using DMA mode. If so, congratulations, you've made it (at least until the next time Windows disables DMA).
2005-10-24 ? Tomá? Souček wrote, if this doesn't work, check also the dword value MasterDeviceTimingModeAllowed, whose default value is hex 0xFFFFFFFF. If you have a much smaller value, you can try to set it back to its default and reboot for a test
Quote: Recorder: _NEC DVD_RW ND-3550A, Media type: DVD+R
- as i said in my first comment, the firmware for the burner is current, however the discs you're trying to use are newer than the firmware knows what to do with, so you're gonna have to try different discs (older and maybe lesser speed discs such as 8x) until newer firmware is released. this is similar to what you should see when firmware's up to date - Quote: Recorder: HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4082N, Media type: DVD-R

Quote: Burn process failed at 16x (22,160 KB/s)
- whoa what's the rush. 8x is more than fast enough, but you'll be very lucky to have any consistent burns at all even at 4x or 8x with your settings being out of date, never mind the mind boggling 16x :)

creaky,
Thank you for the detail explanation. I'll will try to buy a slower speed DVD and update my Nero. As far as the DMA I have no idea how to do it since I tried so many times to do it using this http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/blog_entry.cfm/231/dmaissues and failed. I did want to try the one fasfrank recomended but I didn't want to mess up more and then have to find out how to fix it. I'll update and let you guys know the prgress, but if you guys think of any other think please let me know. Thanks again!

You don't have to buy "slower speed" DVDs, just burn them @X8, you don't have to burn them at maximum speed.

....trouble is though, these particular discs aren't recognised by the firmware, so bdragon07 will get inconsistent/no burns at worst, and i suppose 'generic'/inconsistent burns at best, more likely zero success until using discs that the firmware is able to recognise...
