i am using anydvd (newest version) and dvd shrink. the whole problem is that these (and other) dvd's only have about 120 mins of video, but the actual movie file is 7000 megs, way too much to burn with a good quality.

i have reauthored the disc, cutting all extras and dropping the bigger soundtracks, and have cut opening and end credits but the files are still WAY too big. the actual % for the compression is around 80% at the most.

it seems like the movie was encoded twice. is there a way (other than a dl burn) to get around this? i would like to have perfect backups to play when my nieces and nephews come over. they don't tend to mix nicely with my original dvds.

the only way if you dont want to compress is to split the movie into two disks use the set start/end frames option in shrink The guide is on my page follow the link in my sig

have you tried to shrink the video useing the quality options in shrink I've compressed movies to 80% or more and still been happy with the results

unfortunately i have a 56" dlp and the picture exponentially worsens as the quality goes down. maybe i will try to split it, but i wanted that as the last option. thanks for the reply!!!

You may want to give dvd rb & CCE a shot then. Not quite a easy as shrink but many members here swear by the quality it produces. Check out this thread for info:
