Which will you choose & why. Personal exp?
Hello. Im debating between the two. They both seem to be better then the generics & they are both great prices.

What's TYD?
Is that Taiyo Yuden?

I mainly use plus format media, booktyping purposes is the reason. My benq drives highly favor the plus format media after booktyping them.

No problem for sony/fuji Yuden000-T02 media.
No problem with Ritek R03 media.

Both at the plus 8x speeds.

Ty-go2: No problemo, just stand alone compatability issues.
Ritek:- G05 coded media, there is more and more issues with them.Their quality is diminishing.

Dash format: Definitely the tys-not the ritek g05.
Plus format: The Tys,and riteks are almost up there in quality.

A lot has to do with which DVD-RW drive/s you have and how your stand alone players can handle them. The tys are among the best, but fakes are out there so be cautious of where you order them from.

Another great brand: Verbatim,in the plus and dash format. Excellent high quality media and they have the same advanced metal azo dye, just like Taiyo Yuden.

Be very cautious of generics/store brand name like office max-staples/Memorex/HP/and TDK. You may be able to burn them ok,but stand alone players will have a harder time with them. Stick with taiyo yuden or verbatim and you'll prevent a lot of issues.

Those ty dash media should perform a lot better than the Ritek-G05 media. Make sure they are real taiyo yuden. Lots of fakes are out there, and last week, some members posted newegg.com was selling fake tys.

Check out Rima.com/meritline.com/supermediastore.com/and americal.com. All reputatable, and the only stores I would do business with.

I just bought some shiny inkjet printable tys. I had a choice between ritek and tys,so I got the tys just to be on the safe side.I rarely do the dash format, but with the price difference between plus and dash,I had to go with the dash and with taiyo yuden.

I use Ritek G05's and havent had any problems what so ever. They work really good, but for them to work good you must also have a good burner, ive got a Pioneer 109 and its a good combination (well that's what I think - other's might disagree).

got the same burner and probably equal success as you with the RitekG05s (but mine are like 2 years old, i've read a LOT about the recent decline in Ritek's 8x DVD-R, but haven't used any since my 500+ from 2 years ago) :)

are your RitekG05s recent by any chance? are they the matte surface or the inkjet printables? i've had a lot of success with the Ridata RitekG05s from the past, but i'm curious to know whether you've used a more recent batch and had this success on them?

hi :)
i took up where DOC left off, i've used G05 for 18mths now, never a problem and still going strong.
my buddy also uses G05 for the same length of time.
i use nonprintable and still have no probs.
my buddy uses fullhub printables, he's had issues with them in the last couple of 100 spindles
also i never buy any other than Ritek own brand..Ritek..Ridata or Traxdata
now Ritek R03 is the way to go, comparable to verbatim.
TY's i haven't tried yet, but i would stake my life on what kivory 666 (doc/ty) says about them

Well people.
I purchased a 50 pack of Sonys & going by general advice (made in Japan) The Sonys turned up to be YUDEN000T02. Hopefully my only regret is the price. I will go to another retailer & see if there is a sale on Verbatims. I will try purchasing some TYD online as its far cheaper.

TYD? hahaha, lol. What kind of media is/are these, Doc.? Joking... I'd figured it's the one and only famous Taiyo Yuden.

I've been a Taiyo Yuden user and will always be. All I gotta say is "Tai-yo Yu-den ROCK!"

I'd agree with the dash format as being cheaper on the net,but the regular dvd +r,will usually be cheaper at local stores when on sale. It's very odd why the dash costs more than the plus on the web, whereas the same price is on both whether it's at a staples/walmart/bestbuy/officemax/office depot/etc.

Bigtoxy69 has a thread in the DVD-R media forums about the different prices between formats of on the web purchases and local purchases.

Those sony yudens are very good. Staples/bestbuy/and maybe Office Max each have a sale once a month on them for $15 a spindle of 50.

I think (hope) this question is related to the topic as I've been having trouble with my +r Office Depot discs which code out to be Ritek R03. The ones that look ok end up burning fine from what I can tell, but literally just about every other disc in the spindle has some sort of line starting at the edge and going about halfway through the disc. This looks like a dye issue...or certainly a manufacturing defect? Has anyone else ran into something similar with these or other brands?

I recently bought 200 print to hub ritek ridata g05's from meritline and the first spindle of them did well, however 1 of 3 out of the last 100 I have used have issues with the disc locking up my dvd player near the end of the disc. There is definately issues with this media. I really like the print quality of these discs. They print colors very well. I have tried liteon burner, just bought plextor burner, and new laptop with dvd burner. My laptop seems to have less issues as it sees the media as 2x instead of 8x. I have tried to slow down the burner on my home pc and this doesnt help the disc problem.
Im tired of wasting ink so Ill be switching to TY's until Ritek gets this issue solved!!

could you tell by looking if there was a problem with those Ritek discs? I don't really know how to describe it but you can see even before burning that there's an impression of a line running through part of the disc. Needless to say I junk all of those that I come across before still awfully frustrating from supposedly a solid manufacturer. Sounds like TY and Verb are definitely the (only?) ways to go.

AFAIK many of the Verbatim discs are MCC.
So if your looking for TYD its best to buy online (Super Media e.g.) not only that you will be paying far less. I have a 50 pack of Sony 8x DVD+Rs & they happen to be TYD. Cost me 25$, when I should have got a 100 pack of 8x TYD online for 5$ more.

Taiyo-Yuden media rocks, this is has been my favorite media for years now. I have tried other media like Ritek, Maxell, and Verbatim but none of them match the quality of genuine Taiyos. The nice thing about the 8x Taiyo media is that it they really burn at 12x. I'm not a big fan of burning at high speeds unless I'm using Taiyo...cheers

Does the Verbatim 8x DVD+R coded MCC 003 have the advanced metal AZO dye or that's just on the 16x? The package of the 8x does not say 'advanced AZO' like the 16x does. Is this just a difference in packaging? Thanks.
