Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, TDK, Phillips or Sony. Most people try to use the 8X DVD-R's and burn it at 4X.

What's the brand name and model# of your DVD-RW drive?

What version is your ps2?

What kind of backups? Games or movies?

Some of the burner drives favor plus or dash. Usually stand alone players and game consoles will tell you which format they like.

The older ps2's can be very picky.These are the most troublesome drives for me to get my backups to play on,using my booktyped backups from my benq drives.

Purchasing off the net:
Taiyo yuden 4x or 8x from reputatable stores like Supermediastore/rima/meritline/and americal.com.

Purchasing locally:

Sony/Maxell/Fuji 8x-but look at the wrappers for Made in Japan. You can yield taiyo yuden and hitachi on those japanese spindles.

Your bro's plextor should have booktyping capability.This helps for compatability. Try the dash format in the tys/Japanese maxell/japanese fuji/Japanese sony.

If you get some sort of no disc error when you slap one of those dash tys in,then try the plus format of those same brands.

If you still get a no disc error on the plus backup,have your bro d/l the plextools utility so he can booktype the plus format to dvd-rom. That'll increase the compatability of your backups for that ps2.

It's very hard to tell someone which media is best because of all the variations of lasers doing the reading and writing. Then you have to find the right burn speed.

Dvd backups are a lot more difficult than cd backups.And those drives that play those backups will show you if you have problems.Using the quality media,it will prevent a lot of those issues.
