I guess I started my life here on the wrong foot, hehe. I have a problem burning some of my dvds. I'm using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter and I'm only copying the main movie, no extra features or anything. I'm using Verbatims DVD+R, some of my copies work and some don't. I use the same method for all of them, burning at 4x. They work fine on my PC but some don't work on my DVD player. I'm really confused. On the bright side, I have a nice set of coasters now.

Some questions for you:
What kind of burner?
Is the firmware up to date?
Does your burner support Booktyping, and if so, are you
doing so?
Always looking for the good stuff.

What kinda DVD player are you using? For the sake of argument, if you have a DVD player from 1980, it won't know what the hell DVD+Rs are, regardless if it's booktyped to Rom.
You're mentioning quality media with proven programs. Regardless if the firmware is up to date (the drive would have the problem burning or reading the blank disc--not a stand alone DVD player), or if you're not booktyping it to Rom, a very old player will have major problems with copied discs.
For example, a friend of mine has a DVD player from the late 90's (this is at work). I only use TY or Verbatim; booktyped to Rom; burn at a slower speed; keep my multiple DVD drives up to date with firmware upgrades and yet this disc would not be read by the stand alone player of his at work. But, every where else, say his house, my house, my room, etc., it plays with no problems.
So yeah, how old is the player? If it is recent, then you can start tackling other options.

The DVD burner is a LiteOn and the firmware is up to date. The DVD player is a faily new model Toshiba with the HDMI support. I started to use DVD-R instead of DVD+R and so far everything is good. I've copied 3 of my dvds with no problems. Could it be that my dvd player doesn't support DVD+Rs? but if that's the case, how come I can see some of the movies? Anyways, I'll continue to use - media and see what happens.

If you stick with DVD+R's and booktype them when burning you will see a higher compatability rate.

+R is far superior--unless you have an older player that is more compatible with the older -R discs.

yeah...I've been wondering about booktyping myself. I see a box for it when I run DVD Shrink but it seems to be always grayed-out...

If this option is greyed out it means that your burner isn't capable of bitsetting, if you use the high compatability mode feature, Nero will attempt to booktype for you.

Thanks for the replies guys. I changed the booktyping settings in DVD Decrypter to DVD-ROM but still one out of every two backups doesn't play in my dvd player. I'll just stick to dvd-rs since they seem to work fine. Thanks anyways guys.
