Maybe the installation is corrupt and you need to uninstall the application, then run Nero clean tools ,restart your machine and then re install that application.
How do you turn it off now even though it still runs after you close it.
control, alt, delete and then end the process, works ok sometimes. it is esp a prob. when i log off, or turn off the pc via the start menu.
i purchased the download copy, so am relying on a good d/l from the Nero folks.

i have had similar problems with software doing with your prescribed symptoms and have done exactly like you.In the end a clean install of my computer was the thing that fixed it up .This is one option i hate but would feel neccessary if it starts to occur more frequently with your other programs.Mine happened with windows media player.You would turn it off but the music would still continue to play
