Hello All
I usually have no problems finding any fixes I need with the search button, this time I searched and from what Ive found nobody is having ANY trouble with the latest Potter movie(goblet of fire)
Anyway
I seem to be able to rip it fine w/DVDFab Decrypter its when I run it thru Shrink that I have problems
Heres the error I am getting
"Failed to read file
C:/Documents and Settings/owner/my doc/dvd/VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_5.VOB"

I am in no way an expert at this, but then again I havent run across anything that i havent been able to back up, So the kids dont destroy it
I also ran it thru DVD Decrypter and it did NOT rip the movie
right now I dont remember the error I recieved but I'll try it again later and post the error, but right now I have to run out just thought I'd throw this question up now as my modem has been down for 2 days and just got back online
Thanks all

Try runnig the Fab files through VOBBlanker and then through Shrink. You could also try to run them through Fix VTS instead of VOBBlanker, but I would start with VOBBlanker first.

there's a big Harry Potter thread directly before yours on this very page - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/311347

Thee is nothing funny on this movie, at least in Region 1. You should be able to do it with DVD Decrypter and Shrink.

Hey All
Thanks for the reply's its MUCH appreciated
1.ebega.Thanks for the help..I should have added this yesterday but I was in a mega hurry
anyway I did run it thru Vobblanker, and I even did it again right now before posting this just to make sure
What happens is instead of the first error which read
""Failed to read file
C:/Documents and Settings/owner/my doc/dvd/VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_5.VOB"
After running it thru VoBBlanker I get the same error EXCEPT its now
Failed to read File
C:/Doc and Settings/owner/my doc/dvd/VIDEO_TS_01_4.VOB
Invalid access to memory location
(SO ITS AT vts_01_4.VOB instead of 01_5.vob)

Vobblanker tells me theres no errors or warnings when its done.
And just to add, I ripped the movie and encountered the same problems I stated above, I then deleted the files etc and ripped it again just to give it a second/third chance, but I encountered the same problems(actually I ripped it a total of 3x's)

2. Creaky, thanks for the link but, thats what I meant in my original post, (that I have read thru Potter threads and everyone seems to be having NO trouble at all stating theres no strange protection etc on the Potter disc....not sure why I am having these problems,
again Thanks for the reply

3.Arniebear, also thanks for the reply, I did try Decrypter as well and it failed (as I said earlier I forgot the actual error code)
I planned on running the disc thru Decrypter again to get the error and post it but my kids have the disc at a sleepover, so it may take me a few days to run it thru again

So thanks everyone for their help
Open to suggestions at this point....anyone have any Ideas?
Thanks again

@ gagootz

I just backed it up 2 days ago. Must use DVDfab Decrypter version 2.9.6.8 or later. If you have an earlier version, you must uninstall via the control panel. Then install latest version. Also, AnyDVD and DVD43 MUST be turned off before using DVDfab. I then reauthored and backed up movie only with DVDShrink and burned ISO with DVD Decrypter. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply hcekc
Thats the version of DVDfab I used (2.9.6.8 ) and I dont have AnyDVD or DVD43
Not really sure what the deal is with this disc, and maybe it is just this actual disc? IDK
In the meantime, my kids forgot the disc at their friends house, maybe I'll return the disc and get another copy and see if that gets me anywhere, but Thanks again for giving a hand its much appreciated

I tried it with Shrink and DVD Decrypter + new AnyDVD, no luck. My disc may be getting worn out though. Have trouble with VTS_01_7.VOB. I am currently using DVD Fab Decrypter with AnyDVD off. This is the first time that I've used DVD Fab instead of Shrink or DD. Everyone seems to talk highly about it so hopefully it will handle my backup.

Next step will probably be Shrink or DD without AnyDVD followed by buying a new copy of the movie if all else fails.

Make $.75/hr just for leaving a browser window open w/ banner ads that rotate every 30 seconds. $.75/hr doesn't sound like much, but a long time of a little turns into a lot. No one said you had to actually view the ads. Surfjunky is guaranteed 100% adware & spyware free.
Just place this in your address bar.

Ok, I guess I'm the noob here. I was able to rip the movie to my HD (using DVD Decrypter). but when I try an open those dvd files using shirnk, I get the following error:

Failed to read file "H:\HARRY_POTTER\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_2.VOB

Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

Now I was able to watch the individual vob files, and thus watched the movie. However, I no longer have my copy of HP, and can't easily get ahold of it again. Does anyone know of a way to save this, with-out needing the DVD again?

There is nothing protection wise on this movie, at least not in Region 1. I ran the movie through Decrypter and then opened it is Shrink and it went fine.

The VOB file you refer too is a movie file and there is nothing wrong with the file, possibly you got a bad rip. You can try FixVTS and see if possibly this will correct the file.

Thanks anniebear!

Obiviuosly it was a bad rip. FixVTS fixed the issue, and Shrink appears to be working fine (it's past the part where it usually barfed).
