Hello.

I've had a lot of success using Decrypter/Shrink and AnyDVD/Nero, but lately (occasionally) the burner is having difficulty recognizing media as blank - I get the insert blank disc message (ejecting the blank from the burner). I've been using only TY discs. I've uninstalled/reinstalled drivers and the burner, which solves the problem temporarily. This problem occurs primarily if I attempt to Nero Recode Main Movie to DVD with source DVD in one drive/blank in external burner. Should I be limited to using the single burner to rip and then burn in separate steps? Or, is this an indication that there is a problem with the burner (starting to wear out/go bad?) or perhaps a system problem (something necessitating reinstalling drivers or hardware)?

Thank you for help/suggestions.

You are using good quality media, you're firmware is current, the only thing I can see that I dont recommend is that you are trying to burn on the fly which is thwart with problems.

Lets see what others think, Cheers.

If you post a Nero log, we can look at your system, and let you know if we see anything wrong. Otherwise you rely on our psycic powers,, no, i didnt think you wanted to go that route.. :)
Find your Nero logs here, depending on which version of Nero you are using. The paths listed are the best ones to use for troubleshooting logs.
Nero 6 history log location: Program Files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.txt

Nero 7 history log location: Program Files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>NeroHistory.txt

These things record all burns, and we only need the last one. The burns are seperated by something like this
Quote:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
====== *** NeroAPI, History File *** ======

Windows XP 5.1
IA32-xxxx-xxxx-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

that was from a Nero 6 log, but 7 looks much like that. Underneath the divider is the operating system, and right below that is the begining of the serial number. When posting a log, just include the last burn log, and be sure to edit out your serial numbers by typing xxxx over them before posting to the forum.

Your firmware is very old, current version is 2.1a, and can be found here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=302
Quote:
Nero API version: 6.6.0.16
Nero is also a little old, but shouldn't be a problem, if you want 6.6.0.18 it is here: http://httpdl2.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe

This typically means that your media is disliked by your burner, a firmware update could be the solution to all your problems.

@gr8ful1
Well, thats a recode log, but it will do. And you didnt read what i said about editing the serial numbers before posting, but if you get to them fast enough, you will probably be ok. Someone will steal them, and your copy of Nero will be flagged as pirated on the next upgrade if someone steals them. Then you have to prove you bought Nero, while waiting for Nero to issue you some new numbers.
You need to go back to that post and edit out your serial numbers. The are here right below this

Just go to the pencil symbol to the right of your post, and it will let you edit the post. You edited out one of them before posting, but missed that other one.

Wow, Locoeng got to this one before i could even get my reply in. Oh well, the serial number thing still seems to be there so i guess i found something.. And i thought i had a fresh log to pick thru.. AAAAWWKK AWWWKKK , flapping wings of a Nero log vulture.. :)
Ya gotta get up early in the morning to beat that LOCO train, and i havent even slept today/night, whatever...

LOL...you better get some rest buddy, it's 10A here in sunny SC. Your last post in this thread was last night so I didn't think you were lurking and didn't want our friend to wait on a response, next time I'll leave you some bits.

Sorry gr8ful1, but I'm going to have to report this thread as offensive now because you included your s/n and didn't follow instructions...consider all my advice null and void...J/K

Long live Garcia.

Oh, i dont mind sharing a thread/log locoeng. I thought i was the only one up, and you jumped on this thing so fast, it made my head spin. Its all good. You saved me the time to dig thru that log.
Dont leave anything for me or anyone else if you can. Im sure there will be plenty of logs, and by finding as much as you can first, we may get them burning faster than having the poster waiting for a team effort. :)

Sleep? What is that? I almost OD'd on it the other day by getting 8 hrs of sleep. Now ive gone another 24 hours up from that time, and im still not sleepy.. 4 hrs of sleep per 24 seems to be my normal cycle, for the last few years anyways.

gr8ful1 Your Nero serial # needs to be XXX out so no one can copy it in that last post. Please be careful.

Thank you again for all the help (Gwendolin, Max, Loco, and Dog).

I'm sorry about the SN - I just missed that (still a "newbie", afterall).

I replaced the burner (it was making noise - mechanical...like a grinding? It was kind of old, I guess.).

I am also a newbie, I don't have a clue what i am doing, and i need all the help in the world with this. LOL. I am now using maxell (yeah, i heard they are no good-LOL) DVD-R and it is also getting a ways through the process and then spitting the disc out and saying "insert a empty disc to write to" even though the disc that is in is brand new (empty). I can't figure out why it is doing it.

how do i get the log thing?
