If i have made a mod for, e.g. a halo 2 multiplayer map, do i have to patch the mod over the original map? if so, how do i do that?

First you backup the original map always.
Then download a patch example: PPF
1) Get ppf-o-matic
2) Open it up
3) For ISO file browse to the map you want modded
4) For patch browse to the .PPF file
5) Click apply

Ignore the screen that pops up
Now you have a modded map dont forget to resign it using map resigner
