Why is it better to rip to files in Decrypter and then use shrink? If shrink can handle it with Anydvd backing it up would this not be faster and just as good of quality? Just learning still. Any info is appreciated

Yes using JUST DVD Shrink with AnyDVD is fine alot of people that use DVD Decrypter DONT have AnyDVD and DVD Decrypter rips more problem movies than DVD Shrink thats why. you might try using CloneDVD 2 with AnyDVD lots better quality ,use this guide to help

The question is more like when is it better to rip with DVD Decrypter, verses DVD Shrink?

I go by the size of the dvd I am ripping. DVD-5 originals or backup copies to blank dvd-5: Mode ISO read/Mode ISO write. The quickest way to rip to harddrive and burn.
Also great for DL backups of DVD-9 to DVD-9.

I haven't used DVD Decrypter in file mode in almost a year. That extra step of ripping to harddrive, and then DVD Shrink encoding it to the hd takes longer.

Rip with dvd shrink/reauthor or entire disk/autoburn with nero/dvd decrypter/or CopyToDVD. I do leave AnyDVD disabled, until I run into something that DVD Shrink can't handle alone. I then enable it,and proceed like normal.

To speed you up,try reauthoring main movie only and AC3 5.1 CH English sound stream only. Untick the rest of the stuff and keep that compression to a minimum.

Dvd shrink may be old and no longer updated, but combined with AnyDVD-It is still a heck of a combo.

I will use Decrypter to rip if I am using my laptop. Shrink is CPU intensive when encoding, by ripping first to HDD it will take less time to encode and my laptop will not overheat, a problem which it has.

i don't remember the last time i work stray from the disc. i like to rip with Decrypter or FabDecrypter first then use shrink or recode2 to compress. i do have anydvd but i only use it if and when decrypter or Fab can't rip a movie(this has not happened in a long time, so my anydvd is always off). i don't mind the extra step, it ensures me that my compressor will do its job smoothly. i let the ripper do what it does best(rip) and the compressor what it does best(compress).
my way: Decrypter or FabDecrypter/VobBlanker/shrink or recode2/copytodvd.
as i said, i dn't mind the extra time, i enjoy not only viewing the movies but ripping then also.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.
