I backed up war of the worlds, 03/19/2006 using shrink
and dvddecrypter, using the guide on a members website.
The question is, if it works on my computers dvd does
that mean it was a success ? I can't use my stand alone
player, it says no disk but the computer plays it perfect:-/\
I have a Mintec 1600 stand-alone and recorded 0n maxell dvd+r 8x/4.7/2hrs media and a (bold)micro advantage dvd recorder.(/bold)Thank you for any ideas, and or answers.
Sounds like more of a compatability issues between those maxell backups and your Mintec stand alone player.
You say your DVD-RW drive plays those backups on your pc,and it should. Now comes those stand alone players that will be doing the playing of those same backups.Some of them will have trouble recognizing them.
The first thing I would do-if that burner has dual format capability,is get some good dash media and burn a few backups and test out in the mintek player.Keep burn speed at 4x.
Another option is to booktype those plus maxell media to dvd-rom,but only if your burn has that capability.
See if you can get the exact model# from that microadvange dvd recorder.
The only other numbers are 74TA and E219276
purchased around 2002-2003 from Walmart, for about $60
total. I am still unclear with my original question,
if it plays in the recorder that burned it does that
mean it is a success, if not why does the original dvd recorder play it?
Dvd players and recorders usually have no problem reading original dvds.Original dvds are not burned,they are pressed in. Dvd plus and dash are totally different formats. Stand alone players may have a harder time recognizing them. They rule of thumb:Older dvd players prefer dash,and the newer ones prefer the plus. It's all about compatability. Try that war of the worlds backup on some other family members/friends stand alone players and see how they fare.
The DVD-RW drive that burned it,should play it.Not always the case though. Yours plays it's own backups,so it is successful.It should play it and is should look near original in quality.
Now it's all the drives you plan on playing your backups in.That's where the compatability of your backups takes over. A drive that doesn't like your particular backup will give you a no disc error.Your players do not like your backups because you get the no disc error.
Several possibilities can cause this no disc error-all because stand alone players can be sensitive to:
1)Format-try opposite format if your burner has dual format capability.Try some quality dash media,if your DVD-RW drive supports it.
2) Media quality: Change media.Some players may not like a certain MID coded media.Maxell plus media should be pretty good to excellent.
3)Change burn program.Try nero6 or CopyToDVD to autoburn with DVD Shrink.
4)Try slower burn speed to 2.4x. Older stand alones may prefer a very slow burn.
5) Paper/sticker labels-major no-no
6) Weak stand alone player-maybe get an el cheapo $20-$30 player.Those cheapo players usually play everything.
7) Your burner drive: Maybe a firmware update. I've used 6 total dvd burners and a tv burner and know the overall compatability can vary between certain brand names of burners. I've got 3 benqs that play virtually anywhere,and 3 other pc burners that have very low compatability rates on my stand alone players.
8) Booktype your backups.I'm unclear of what actual model number it is,but some of them do have that option.It actually gives you 3 formats to try: Plus/Dash/and plus booktyped to dvd-rom-the more universal dvd format.Booktyping actually fools those picky players into recognizing them.That's why I have 3 benqs a booktyping away.
In the world of dvd backups,stand alone players/ps2s/xboxes/and other pc drives can be very screwy. Those are 8 things I listed as possible culprits,there's even more possibilities.
Is war of the worlds the only backup that your Mintec doesn't recognize,or is that with all your backups?
War of the worlds is the only movie I have ever burned.

Burning a dvd if pretty easy,getting them to play on stand alone players isn't, LOL

One thing to note: Your drive sounds like an older model.There's a good possibility that the newer 8x and 16x speed media may give you problems now or in the future. Each burner has firmware.It's the built in programming for your drive,which tells that drive how fast to burn it. It basically controls the writing strategy.It can also improve your burn for stand alone players,and tell you there is no blank disc inserted in your drive,when actually you have a disc inserted in in.
